It seems us LR folk don't like change. Im sure its the same with other manufactures too when they make large drastic changes to loved models.
Most manufacturers don't,have a good look at the main models of the larger volume sellers in this country,as an example.
    Particularly the Jap brigade.

On another note, when i went and had a really good look at the D5 at the local stealer, for the second time, the comment from the salesman was 'we can't seem to sell them to current D4 owners'.

If it was the vehicle i wanted,he would have sold one that day.

Not claiming most do, but those that do its a big deal.

Think last gen patrol to new, nissan are dead.
Solid axle to ifs cruiser, 105, last real cruiser.
D2/D3, landrover have gone soft, uglyiest rear door ever
BMW 1M was an abomination before release
Defender having coils was end of the world.

    Etc etc.

D5, is it for everyone? nah, is there anything wrong with it, doesn't seem to be.

Built this the other day for fun, this is the cheapest possible D5 you can build in AU and man it looks the goods in black imo and looks relatively simple inside too.

But BM this is NOT an off-road vehicle. Come on mate I posted up the cost of the genuine Discovery (ie like all Discos before it in that it's not just an X5 with slightly more wheel travel like the SD4 you posted).

The Sd4 is about as off-road capable as an Evoque (A bit tongue in cheek but you get my drift).

There is no amount of wishful thinking gets you to a genuine off-road Disco for $80 something thou. On road the genuine D5 offroader (I use that term loosely in some ways too) its ....wait for it...$110,000 on the road.

    Cheers

The last solid axle cruiser was the last real cruiser Won’t be retro...Won’t be retro.... The 70 series took over as the genuine offroader.

Typo in your comment...D3/4 gone soft. No one said the live axle full chassis D2 was soft. Same as D1 but with traction control. D2 door ugly...Same as D1...

    Cheers

The D5 may be a good car but the point is that it's not a replacement or successor to the D4 - it incorporated none of the features of the D4 that were the reasons why people bought them.

Similar reason the new Patrol is a sales flop here as well.

And not having a diesel didn't help either.

Oh,and you will see the replacement for the D4 in September

Well, let's hope so. If it does fit the bill they'll sell heaps, because the 2016 D4s are now coming off lease.
