They’re slamming people in NSW for them at the moment....

The common U-clamp on type is ok if mounted on the left, no more than 4 rods, doesn’t obstruct drivers view and needs to be spun behind the tube when not in use.

There are removable units and units that remain behind the bulllbar.

    Side baskets (RSFV)

Why? Because the vehicles are being knocked back for registration in WA (worst), SA (next worst), VIC, etc...

It’s getting difficult to register an “original” Perentie due to these “protrusions”

There are arguments that the Perenties passed ADRs at the time of manufacturing (1988).

But they are getting difficult to register..

Tombie is on the money - it would be interesting to get a new Defender registered with the side ladder and basket.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the new Defender and am still waiting on the ‘90.

    It shall be interesting....
Given how pedestrian friendly the whole new def is including the ladder and box, imo it would be very interesting if they even raise an eyebrow especially when dealers rego them

    Notice the rounded plastic

A snorkel would be more dangerous than both.

I'm not sure the article is quite right, about the seats anyway, as I understand it in the UK a "Commercial" vehicle has tax and/or rego benefits but can only have 2 (maybe 3) seats upfront the rest has to be for cargo, like a van basically. That's funny because:

Getting onto the roof of a car is rarely considered essential.

And most roof top tents come with a retractable ladder.

Is there a star rating for this? A car is only pedestrian friendly if it doesn't hit pedestrians ! So maybe all cars should start with a 5 star rating and then you loose a star for every pedestrian you hit?

The ones you gotta watch out for are those EVs that launch to 100kph in under 3 seconds - cold killers!

Less likely to be run over by a Defender. You can hear them coming, and they are slow.

    ------

The side mount accessories will be fine. The mirror will knock out any pedestrian that gets too close.

True. But the majority of people leave their tow bars attached and I know of no one who has got a ticket because of it. My vehicles always have tow bars attached. Cheers

Yes, its actually part of the whole ancap rating - A vehicle cannot be 5 star unless it scores at least 60% of the maximum pedestrian protection score. The overall star rating is determined by the lowest rating in any of the judged criteria:
    Adult Occupant Protection
    Child Occupant Protection
    Vulnerable Road User Protection
    Safety Assist

I understand the ladder (kinda - though I’ve never needed one to get onto the roof rack). And as I say above, rooftop tents already have them built in in the right location for the tent.

...But what is the silly side box actually for?? a picnic set? Wet scungies? Rubbish? Detachable briefcase? Alien laser blaster?

...Wierd C pillar side panel? Blind spot accentuator?

Correct with roof top tent including the Land Rover one, however getting onto the roof to access your additional spare jerry cans and lightweight gear is essential to this application.

For overlanding getting onto a roof rack safely is essential.

From looking at the photos of the Land Rover ladder they have added plastic rounded sides and made it retractable so that it is as pedestrian-friendly as possible.

The side mounted gear carrier is also rounded and flexible very pedestrian friendly.. for this application side mounted gear can be essential in the outback as you have filled up all the internal, or need quick access to supplies.

Australia is the only country I believe they are releasing a bullbar for so that says a lot right there.

That's me done on this subject, I can't see any problems from a regulatory point of view.
