When i saw them on ebay i nearly sent the following paragraph to that Oxley mob.

Wanna sell my 1985 County Spec 110 on consignment ? I would be happy with half what your asking for this ex-army beast. It has only 88,000km's on the odo, FSH, a two inch lift, on road alloys X 5, off road steels X 8, a winch, full length roof rack, rear cargo barrier, 4 doors, a hard roof, 9 seats (all with seat belts), air conditioning, a mega bass stereo system and a 32 inch TV/DVD player. The paint is fresh and there are plenty of late model upgrade and accessory parts all over it.

And i forgot about the power steering too! Oh I took quite a bit of license... The Count is still in pieces awaiting refurb!!! Exciting to think of the possible value in him though? Err probably not. What's that line from "The Castle"?

    Tell him he's dreaming.
Jeez Dave, I was thinking "Isn't he still building this?"
Typical bandwagon hype. Some silly bugger will probably cough up for them. Give it another 2 or 3 rounds and methinks we'll see some perenties at quite reasonable prices.

The young tourists I recently met on Smith Street in Collingwood said they paid 16K for this mostly tidy unit. They only had to change brake fluid for Vic RWC and were extremely happy with the purchase.

I think the first ones out are pretty flash if this one is anything to go by. Could be a part of the clearance strategy. If I were looking to buy, I would be inspecting first to be sure the next ones are just as good.

Still think half the cost of this one would be more realistic too.

It is high but for 16k could you get a better 4x4 to tour remote australia in? As tourists I think they have done well. They can thrash that thing all around the country and then when done turn back and do it all again.

It sounds like registration was a breeze, resale should be easy. Galv chassis, bulkhead and a bullet proof ISUZU is worth a fair bit IMO.

I think they have done well so long as they can put up with the heat and the noise!

    Thumbs up

Just an update on my purchase for those considering jumping on one

Pay particular attention to the fuel tank they have a 2nd skid/bash plate over the main tank body. Over the years they will have collected a few million bits of sand between the silicone and tank. It had a very small spot of diesel left when parked overnight

I have since drilled out the spot welded plate and removed to show a whole lot of pin holes in the tank i plan on braising these up and refitting

Other than that i checked the oil and took it for a 800k round trip to Batemans Bay with out a drama, no oil leaks

Yes it would be well worth putting in some kind of immobiliser. Soft top I suppose not the most secure but you would compensate with lock boxes and blinds. Any car is an easy smash and grab if valuables are on show, a military vehicle with blocked out windows might not look that appetizing.
