Looks terrific! Well done! Top job. Put me down for one!![]()
Brilliant matie i do so like the cage you fabricated maybe one day i'll get one for mine.
But keep up the great work its giving me so many ideas....![]()
Bought a new fuel filler, got sick of the old one being too small. I got an old but new genuine filler as used on series landy's and county's etc. It is about 3" diameter and is so much easier to fill than the old one, can even use the big hi-flo pumps now
Finished fitting both the snorkels.
Got the radiator rodded and soldered back together as both the top and bottom plates had broken off. Is otherwise in very good nick.
Working on the A/C, are just going with the informas under dash unit as it is what I have for free. I'm quietly confident and optimistic that with the better condensor set up, super soundproofing/insulation, tinted windows and now safari roof it will be up to the task. The reduced leg room for the passenger isn't much of a concern as I mostly drive, my wife is short, and besides the pedals on the drivers side restrict far more room than the A/C evaporator unit does and I don't find it an issue. Not sure where else would be a good spot for the evaporator, above the rear seat on the roof/head lining would cancel out center seat passenger but would be ok if that wasn't an issue. So will see how the under dash unit goes. It's out of the donor Td5 dual cab 130.
Cheers,
Andrew.
Fitted the under dash unit yesterday and condensers , hopefully get it all plumbed up today. I had a brainwave when installing the under dash unit, I decided to cut a 54mm hole into both the heater and A/C duct so to connect both systems together. I made a simple slide gate to open /close the hole, hoping it will make defrosting the windscreen better.
Can you take some photos of that? I was looking at mine and wondering if it could be done without the slide so that it would be permantly done but pics before I pull it apart would be a massive help!

Yep no worries, here's a few pics. I havn't had a chance to test it properly yet but I think you will need to seperate the two systems to get good efficency, is very simple.
We did plumb the system up today and test ran it and so far very impressed, works very well. I'm lucky to have a good mate who is an auto A/C guru who helped me with the whole system, and he reckons it's more like a refrigeration system than a car A/C system, was running at only 10psi which is very low, read cold. I wasn't keen on pushing the grille out futher for the condenser which would then mean the Hi mount winch and bull bar would also need to be pushed out, and importantly I wasn't keen on blocking any more air flow to the intercooler and radiator. So we decided to run two smaller but thicker condenders up high in the corners of the tray hurdle where they get a good bit of fresh air, and my mate plumbed them up with one feeding the other, which is what they do on systems used in extreme conditions. They also both have a powerful skew blade fan pulling the air through them. It works so well that my mate is concerned that liquid will make it to the compressor which will wear it out quickly, so he is going to install a triage switch to limit the fans turning on.
I did have a play with my slide valve that connects the two systems and it definately works, can feel the air etc, so are confident it will work well for defrosting the windscreen.
Just need to wire it up properly now and tidy up all the hoses and all done.
Cheers,
Andrew
Good news is that I wired it all up properly and test ran it and it works very well. I put a digital thermometer in one of the vents and within no time the air temp went down to -1deg, admittedly it was a cold day but my mate reckons it will still get close to that even in hot weather.
Bad news is that when I started to fix the hoses down i heard a leak coming from behind the evaporator under the dash, bugger. So out it came, and I found that a connection was loose, so easy fix.
Great looking truck man! Your AC seems to be monstrous!
Your condenser fans look almost like the rear mount radiators on trials trucks. Very cool!
Your paint job looks uber clean too!
