I know a good picture framer! These pics are great.
Got the parts! Went to the truck depo thismorning and was very relieved to pick them upso now I will deliver them first thing tomorrow morning and get the ball rolling a day early. I would much prefer to fit them myself but will have to hope the mechanic will not stuff it up.
Fingers crossed!!
Our good old Landy is back!!
What a stressful day, but all okI didn't like dropping off all the parts and leaving our Landy with the nissota mechanic, would much rather do the work myself. So I tried to relax, but couldn't, rang a couple of times when I remember things, and waited for them to ring when finished. They finally rang about 430 cos the poor old Toyota mechanic couldn't work out how to get it out of low range 4wd for test drive, I said I'll be there asap. Got there, showed old mate toymota mechanic but he was all flustered and said he was over it, so I was more than happy to test drive it, all good.
Got it back to our cabin, had a good look, got me tools out and adjusted the rear air bags that were all out of whack. But he didn't do too bad for a toymota mechanic...
Great news Andrew, may the rest of the the trip be less "exciting"
Tony
Well Tony, the "excitement " continues! we finally left weipa after a week waiting for parts, cruising out of town all felt good. I was conscious that the cheap terrafirma shocks wouldn't be up to the task as well as the big koni raids, but I did expect them to last more than 200k! As we pulled into Coen one of the new rear shocks had been pulled in halfthey were the longer shocks for 2" lift but obviously couldn't cope with the airbags long travel, bugger. Was late in day so we camped behind the pub. I still had one of the konis from the incident but it was slightly bent but decided to give it a go. Camped behind the pub there were a few car wrecks, and one happened to be an old disco! So I asked and then pilfered both the rear shocks to have as spares. And thanks to Steve for the good idea, I also pilfered some seatbelts and rigged up some limiting straps to protect the remaining shock.
We continued on keeping a good eye on things, shocks look ok but one of the new airbag pistons kept moving on the baseplate, took apart and found that mats welded bolt had come apart, so out with the welder and all fixed finally!
We took the short cut road from Musgrave to Karumba, was a good road and had fun meeting up with a bunch of pig shooters, lots of funny stories...
From Karumba to Gregory downs, great camping on beautiful Creek but alot of Gonads, then lawn Hill, Mt Isa then we had a great weekend at the Bedourie races and rodeo with Adam brand concert. Now at Quilpie, heading to lightning Ridge. Trucking along nicely, all good![]()
Few photos
Not having much luck, are ya?!
Interesting about the shock. After swapping to bags on my 130, I noticed over a patch of rough track on Moreton Island a clunking noise when dropping into holes.I suspected it was the Koni shocks topping out, and feared ultimately they would end up like your Terrafirma for the same reason. The difference maybe was that this was at very low speed, and only happened maybe half a dozen times.
After a bit of research, I think limiting straps might be the best (and cheapest) option. How did you mount yours (albeit a temp job)?
Yeah just rigged the strap up from the bolt that holds the trailing arm to diff, and to the lower of the three bolts for the chassis mounted shock mount. I used the steel seatbelt mount loop tag thingy on the bottom bolt, passed the seatbelt through so was doubled up and simply punched a hole and sandwiched between washers on the top bolt. Not ideal, is starting to tear through a bit but doing the job. Will sort it out better once home, just normal roads from here.
Cheers
