I'd love to get my hands on a '49 chassis to drop my '49 sideplate engine into. That's about as close to owning a '48 as I'm ever likely to get! I can live with having my '49 engine in my pretty mint '50 chassis though.

I am keen to find a restorable series 1, there have been a few for sale but I missed out working away.

Ps .Love to get me hands on that grey ute out at Andamooka.

    Mike,

The grey ute at ANDAMOOKA was an early Mine Dept vehicle, I was offered it but at the time the town history was being stolen away in droves, as I was part of the town I agreed for it to stay with the other machinery we have collected from all over the opal fields to make a type of display.

I still have dibs on the landy if it ever comes "off" the display as that was the agreement I made (and it cost me $500 to get the car to start with!)

I myself sometimes regret not taking it myself, it has added plastic tanks fitted into the toolbox areas on rear sides of tray, a monster bull/scrub bar and some rudimentary underside protection as it used to barge through sand hills to get from field to field.

It is a great example though and needs to stay there as part of the town history so we can all admire it!

The ute was nicer with its original "patina" as were the other machinary, but some "person" thought it would be better with a "anti nuke" slogan daubed across it, so those affected were repainted by the locals.

    Hi Digger,

I know this vehicle came across it a while back when working at Roxby and living in Andamooka. It was the mine inspectors or so the story goes . It is a very restorable example but I was sure it was not for sale. If it is i am interested. There are others around that town as well I saw a few roofs and grills through or over fences possibly 1's or early 2s. There should always be these type of examples around a bit like the spitfire gate guardians at old air force bases. You think they will never get restored but over time things change and next thing you know there up and running again.

    Mike,
I lived in ANDAMOOKA just short of 5 years leaving in 2007.
The landy was on the block where there was going to be an eco village...
    (thats another story!)

I had the oppourtunity to buy and take it but felt that as it was a mines dept vehicle with locally adapted scrub bar (made of stobie poles!!) that it should stay.

I paid $500 for it but left it there on condition it was for the display. If the display goes I am leaving to collect it and bring it back here with a trailer as quick as I can!!.

There are some series 2's and 3's very few series 1's left except for Repco's which I saw he was still driving when I was there in February.

There were a few great series 1's at a house (in the yard) along with panels etc etc, but the owner had died and his wife didnt want to part with them.
I kept enquiring but at the right time Len (ex Lens Landrovers) spoke to them and she sold the lot to him!! I was a bit peeved at her but understand it was obviously the right time for her and as Len has always been considerate and helpful to me I couldnt even be upset at him!!

I tried to get an ex mil in ANDAMOOKA (other than the two I already have got!) but the owner wouldnt part with it ~possibly because of my occupation!.... I tried a number of times but haven't tried for a fair while...

Recently a member on the forum had a go, and I understand was much more succesful than me, but possibly because circumstances have changed with the former owner (he is dead!)
Its a great part of the world isnt it!?

    Cheers

I suspect your right Digger it could have been your occupation - All things going well money has changed hands and I have officially purchased the IIA SWB Ex Military

PS - I am now going to sell the CR as I have just to many.

    A new plan

Looks like I will have to get out into the wheat belt and start looking myself. Maybe put up some wanted posters at local shops. I've got a few good leads to follow up . Word of mouth is the go I feel. Its seems that the real value of any object is what someone is prepared to pay for it and some will try and test that to the upper limit .
