It has better top end after the extractors but didn't improve the low down, the engine is pretty knackered and the rings and valves are very leaky, I reckon a good exhaust maybe a cam upgrade but if your engines a bit worn out a decent rebuild would do wonders and gives you a better base to start with. The problem with increased compression ratio is the cost of premium fuel, you can buy octane booster but I don't think it'd be any cheaper and 2.25P's aren't very efficient with economy figures up to 20L/100km.
What model weber is on your vehicle.
It will have a couple of numbers stamped on the side at the base, looking something like this! **/**

You have made a good start but have you considered the 7:1 head and a supercharger?

Megajolt ignition system gets rid of the variables of a distributor and if you fitted fuel injectors you could run a Megasuirt fuel/ignition system.

I suppose it depends on what you want to spend on it, although most parts needed can be sourced from an old car or from the wreckers,

    Cheers Charlie

    good in theory....

but i am trying to keep it simple....

good old fashion tuning rather then a conversion...

    also i don't have a 7:1 head... on any of the 3 series 3 engines i have...

My Dad's 88 had a 32/34 DMTL Webber as fitted to 2.5 Petrols. (along with 2.5P Manifolds).

A quick google gives these PNs
Weber 32/34 DMTL 6/101 Weber part no: 2267007301
    Weber 32/34 DMTL 7/101 2267013700
The vehicle is now owned by Killer if you want any further detail.

Not sure I'll have a look, I finally took the plunge and bought a timing light. Its worth it, my IIA was so far advanced that I was amazed that it was running. Decent boost in power and economy should improve, I also had a play with the fuel mixture and put in the proper condenser and with all this it's made it a lot more useable.

I was considering bending up my own 2" exhaust system.

would 2" be the size that you guys would recommend? or another?

i was thinking 2" because the headers have a 2" outlet.. so i kinda made sense to me.

If i was to make my own exhaust... how does one of these mufflers look?

If you decide to buy some extractors I can't recommend these guys highly enough.

I ordered some yesterday morning for my son's 2A & they were delivered at 6PM last night....to Brisbane
