Thread: Bunyip rebuild

Did not achieve much this weekend just a few small painting jobs to keep the rust at bay while I wait for the steel to be cut for the bracing.


I have found a colour close to the motors original and think the Bunyip might be turning green, British Racing Green or some thing similar. I was going to stay with the original colours but I just don't like the mustard and my wife and daughter don't like the grey.
While in the shop getting some paint mixed a woman backed into my car, P*$$ed me off greatly as it has not ever had a mark on it.


I have decided to repair the rear Chassis member and add a few reinforcing pieces to try to avoid those bent outriggers.

Cut some more out of the passenger side bulkhead outrigger this arvo. Will replace this tomorrow The first shows the cut the second is the inside of what I cut out

Started work on the front panel and have decided to cut this rust out of the lower section of the panel

Threw some paint at the old motor last week end.


I still have a bit to do and need a gasket set to seal it all up again.
Think I will replace the water pump too, it was not leaking but sitting half full of water for 17 years would not have done it much good and the seal is old.
I am going to pull the gear box off and check the rear main, I figure better to do it now than have it leak and have to pull it apart later.
I think I will go with a set of extractors instead of the exhaust manifold I found a slight crack and the exhaust studs need replacing.

Got the out rigger repaired and fixed a rust spot in the front cross member..

A few more showing the repair to the cross member this one looks a bit rough but it will disappear behind the winch mount when it goes back on.
Second pic is of a new battery box base I had to build due to the old one rusting out.
Doubt I will get much done till after Easter now as I have loaded up the camper for next weekend.

Just remember every thing you pull apart you will have to put back together again.
