Wheel studs were changed in the last year of Series 2a production from 9/16" BSF to 16mm, almost certainly as part of their gradual move to metrication. These were already in use on the Rangrover just going into production.
Interestingly, there was a short period when they were supplied with the earlier studs but with nuts whose outside dimensions match the 16mm nuts (27mm).
There is no specific date for the change, and it probably varied depending where the vehicle was built, but all Series 3 Landrovers left the factory with the larger studs. However, since assemblies are so easy to swap, no bets on what is actually fitted to any particular vehicle today!

Welded Sat, and was awake all Sat night.
Guess I either got a flash remember at least 1, or grinding grit in my eye. Even wearing good fully enclosed goggles.
Auto darkening helmet may have had battery problems.
Put it in the sun for an hr or two normally, but as it is raining, may not have had full charge.
Any way cross member close to finish.

Looking real good WH64.
Theres a lot of clever work going on on this forum.
I dont like those self darkening masks. U always get a micro flash before the lens darkens and it annoys the crap out of me. Give me the old fashioned mask and a no11 glass. A tip i got from a mate one time was if u get a bit of a flash burn to put some drops of milk cream in ur eyes for some relief. Its worked for me when i got a bad flash from someone across the workshop using a mig. Brighter uv burns from mig welding i was told...
Cheers Rod

Armed with a few ideas, I started on the tow Hitch.
Called in to a mate who does machinery fabrication/ repairs, and welds for a living.
Grabbed some steel, took some measurements and told him what I wanted.
Still 8mm x 25mm plate to add to the Front. Idea being to use the 2 1/2 inch holes in the photo.
But these ore covered by the two larger bolt, so will add two new ones 200mm apart.
