Just found this regard missing head gasket hole.
An Old Land Rover forum. ( 2009 )

I replaced the head gasket on my S3 2.25 a few years ago and noticed the same thing. ( Missing Hole )
I asked Frida of Turner Engineering what the deal was and she replied same as stated above.
The blocked passages were in an effort to re-direct more coolant to center cylinder areas.

What? So they left the holes in the metal but blocked over the gasket? These things are so agricultural it's stunning at times.

Don't you swipe your pocket knife blade through it?
Oh hang on, that's the spark plugs

Now I don't know how it works with these old Landy engines, but with the steel MG engines (and my Minis and the Hillman for that matter), if you couldn't hear the tappets, they were too tight. And people wonder what we mean by 'character' when talking about these old ladies.

    Fuel pump

Stripped the fuel pump today, all cleaned up and ready for a kit.
Also a good tip is to uses Vortex brushcutter cord to clean out lines, with its twisted twin cords, you can twist it internally.

    What a neat idea.
What possessed you to try that?

    Hi Crackers,
Been using it for a few years now to clean small internal pipes.
Thought I should share it, with ALRO members.
One of my better ideas. Don't have many. They just gotta count !!!!
Good brushcutter cord also. Much better than the plain stuff.

    Hi,
Have the manifolds in being blasted.
What gasket have you used on your series 3 ????
My kit came with a full gasket, early series, or the two alloy ones, later series, which fit over the inlet manifold only
Will everything line up ok on the series 3 using the full gasket ????
The inlet and manifold has a slight step when lined up, so I assume it set up for the alloy ones.
If using the two alloy ones, what do members use to help seal up the steel to steel exhaust manifold ????
    Thanks
