A bit of nit picking - the nuts you need are, I think, UNF not NF - probably easier to get anyway. (Although I suppose it is possible the new pipes are made with non-standard threads! A trap for some future repairer)

    Hi John,

Thanks for the heads up, I've checked with the supplier the lines and they are UNF. For some reason the nuts for the flex lines are NF, so I'll get them swapped over. From what I can gather NF threads are the same TPI and diameter as UNF, but have a flat crested thread.

    Cheers,

Got the brake lines sorted this morning, the drivers side one for the rear axle was about and inch to short, very happy that there was no charge to remake it

Also got the shocks, bump stops, and axle straps fitted. I had to compress the rear suspension a bit to fit the straps. Hopefully once the car gets a bit of weight in it the suspension will settle.....

Unfortunately the old axle straps couldn't be saved

Well, that's enough with the chassis for now, on to this bit:

    And seperation

Rocker gear doesn't look too bad for 42 years of farmer grade maintenance

    Head off, mmmmm carbonay

Bit of scoring in the cylinder, and quite a bit of a lip at the top. Pistons feel nice and tight in the bores though

    Pistons appear to be original?

Bit of leaking past the valves after 10mins, but not that bad considering.

Number 4 exhaust lifter is darker than the rest? Will have to pull it out and see whats what?

There appears to be a bit of wear on the cam from what can be seen so far.

    Cheers,

Looks like the head gasket was blown between nos 1 x 2 and no 4 was gone at the rear as well. As you say pistons look original too. Not too bad tho.

To be honest the head gasket didn't look too bad when I pulled it off, (in person), but the pictures tell a different story. Hopefully this explains the miss it had when it got warm? I'll put a straight edge across the block and head tomorrow. The block will be going off to be machined, if it and the head needs decking that can get done at the same time.

    Cheers,

Yes, they are pretty close to interchangeable, but not if you are pretending to do a proper job. (I doubt it would matter with these nuts, but even so.....)

    Colour.
Tim,I quite like limestone as a colour.Red or blue may look good on newer stuff. With all your hard work go original.

Ditto on Landy Andy, quite like limestone and it is original. If you MUST change, I would favour marine blue(I am biased, that is the colour of mine), but it suits the vintage, I don't recall seeing red ones of that age.

Thanks for the input on the colour, I'm still not sold on it being all Limestone, but I do agree the Masai Red, (an available colour for the car), may be a bit too much. More research needed

    Cheers,
