In no way intending to steal Andrew's thunder, I've got a lathe down in Bunbury also if you need one. A bit smaller than a $4.5K unit, but good enough for medium projects. I need some more practice on it!

Great idea with the threaded bar. Simple yet effective.

And today came a sacrifice, in the form of a recently procured front axle. Hopefully the drivers side swivel outer on this is serviceable!





Mmmmmm rust! The swivel balls look quite good here, unfortunately they have a quite a bit of pitting, and a pretty deep ridge from the seal in the "straight ahead" position:

Here's one of my pet hates, bearing nuts done up with a torque chisel





The diff is in really good nick, even if it has the old style seal in it. I may use the crown wheel and pinion instead of the rear one from that was in the car. The axles are very good also, so they'll be packed away for a rainy day.

Are you on long service leave or something at the moment????? How do you find time for the mundane things in life,like WORK

I like this thread and am embarrassed by it at the same time through lack of my own activity on my Diesel. I'll aim to be inspired by it though rather than depressed. Keep up the good work.Let me know if you fancy a break and want to come down here to work on Mutley errrrr........... I mean for a rest.
