Dave Ashcroft reckons pegging the diff eliminates a lot of that problem, but everyone just seems to go 80 Series centres here......

    True,

Actually a locked P38 probably actually breaks easier than a locked Rover diff.

Yes it helps. We actually pegged the front 4.7:1 cwp in our old S111 109 years ago. Got the idea from a truck diff.
I'm going to do the same with the 4.1's in my Rangie

Ive noticed most trucks and small ATV are nearly all pegged these days for a reason

Whys this? Shorter distance between the pinion bearings is the only difference i can see?

Hey Phil, what wine goes with a rover diff if they are made of cheese?

Next Q. would a p38 rear fit any 24 spline rover diff?

    The one before the bang?

Actually, rarely heard a whine from a rover diff, lots of bangs though

I'm not sure why. The pinion looks a lot better than a Rover one, and the only thing that I can think of is if there is a difference in the crownwheel or the hemisphere flange. Either that or just bad luck on the track!

We tried to fit a P38 diff into a Rover housing at your house. It didn't fit through Rover diff hole in the housing. But that said, I think that it could be easily made to fit.

What is the most cost effective and good long term answer if you want off road reliability with the D2 diff wise?

    Cheers
