Thread: Front 110 (coil) Salisbury diff.

    Front 110 (coil) Salisbury diff.

    These things are rare as these days. The military used this diff in some heavy applications.

    I'm tossing up either cutting down a Dana 60 F250 front with spicer joints and adapting LR hubs or cut, swap the torque tubes, weld flanges and use the county CV's onto a rear Sals I have here. Wont be as strong as spicer. Although as rovercare has pointed out the Ashcroft AEU2522 CV's are ment to be burst proof so may be an option.

    What I really do need, is some very accurate dimensions of the tube length on a 110 front sals so I get the shaft length correct on the short side. Overall length will make up the long side in effect.

    The steering tie rod is a worry as well

    Tony, I think what you are after is the heavy front diff fitted to Norforce RFSV 110 perenties (part no AYG4319 but I think this number has been superceded by BYG70). They are of a similar design to a Sals, Heavy cast centre and heavier than normal axle tubes but they still take the normal banjo type diff centre. These are a shortened version of the perentie 6X6 front axle. They are rarer than frogs feathers to find unless you want to pay about $4K for a new one. A member on here I know recently found a new one which he purchased for about $450-an absolute steal. Apparently it was from a bloke who worked for a LR dealer and they had ordered it in for the ADF and some years later disposed of. This is the ultimate diff housing for an Isuzu 110. I haven't heard of anyone bending one of these. I have one of these which is a shortened 6X6 one but I discovered that the axle tubes weren't lined up properly when I went to fit it so it is still sitting in my shed. One day I will get around to drilling the spot welds out and realigning the axle tubes and using it.

    Oh btw : If no one else comes up with the dimensions I will measure it up tomorrow for you.....Brian

    I've seen what I think are the AYG4319. They run a reverse cut gear arrangement and may not come in 3.54? I really don't have much of an idea on this rare animal to be honest. But they do look tough The low gearing would kill my 120 on the highway, even with the 35's.

    Could you show us a pic of the problem child you have there

    The standard banjo diff centre fits into them with 3.54 gearing (the 6X6 runs 4.7) Neither are reverse cut. The ADF uses a 4 pinion open carrier in them. The 6X6 one has a different offset for the 4.7 ratio. I will get a couple of photos and some measurements tomorrow......Brian

    They use a Rover diff in that. The Rover Banjo diff wont be strong enough for what I do here with the 120" Even if pegged. It will kill the CWP. I have even rejected the Toyota as an upgrade.

    It will if you use the 4 pinion steel carrier or a truetrac. I have the 4 pinion in mine and have given it some pretty hard work without any problems.

    Have you seen what I do here. I have managed to strip CWPs with smaller tyres and much less torque. Like others here, I'm a bit disillusioned with the Rover CWP design.
    I see your point though, the steel carrier with 4 pinion would give it a fair chance in normal use. I'm not that keen on locking the front anyway, will only stress CV's and shafts more.

    Sounds like you need a 4 pinion steel carrier and 24 spline axles (Jacmac or MD). The county CV's should be ok with what you do..Will get those photos tomorrow - past my bedtime......Brian

    You sure about that?

    I remember Mal Story told me the 6x6 4.7s were front specific and $1700 list price for one R&P!!!

    I thought he also said they were reverse cut.
