Now you are Red Hot!
Think of the badge.Girls wear them in their hair, Men wear them around their neck.
The automatic choke occasionally needed a tweak to keep them working, electric was not an option this year."With gas available and the automatic choke tweaked,"
electric auto choke was avalable for the blue flame from 57 as an option i think.
Sure does ,so you have got the engine family right."the blue flame ran nicely and to back it up,"
Blueflame confurms GM stuff
You went off the boil with this one, as it isn't a auto. "The automatic transmission was available in US --------- from 1950 but not until 1959 in Australia.""I moved the gear lever to second briefly then straight into reverse. Why?"
Dynam flow, becouse thay relyed on the touqure converter, you needed to fill it full of oil first, so that makes it a buick
So why do I use second briefly before selecting reverse or first for that matter?
You have done well! But I am feeling contrary tonight so there maybe someone else a little closer with the answer."Now you can tell me what make of car it is and about what year was it made?"
thats all i can think of, mabe, its been a few years that's all i can think of, mabe, its been a few years
Another couple of clues; two pews, six aboard.

.hello Arthur
ok what's with the put it in second before reverse. this is what had me thinking ----- with there hopeless first auto box's. because it was defiantly not a slid in glide or a hydro. so why with a manual second before reverse??
Those who have driven the gearbox fitted in early Land Rovers, find it is a easy way to select first gear from standstill, by touching third briefly to use the syncro fitted to the third gear stop those gearbox shafts spinning. That's a quick way to stop the first and reverse from spinning, doing this stops that grating you get when you try to pull it straight into 1st or reverse gear.
First gear hasn't got syncro and by briefly touching the second gear that has syncro, it then makes selecting first very quite and easy.
Thanks for your interest.

Today's clue's;

Spent the evening in the shed, as it's raining here.
Finally got around to wiring up my winch!
And yes, it actually works
Now I just need to sort out the best way of running the cables through to the battery, and securely attach the control box to the bar, as the bent fixing plate it comes with is about as useful as carpet in a defender.
Cheers

did a bit of cleaning up of parts getting ready to sell or put in storage
Fitted the right arm on my Rijidij rear bar.
Welded up the loose 'feet' on the passenger seat that were incessantly squeaking/rattling over every bump.
Worked out what is needed to fit the Tigerz11 winch to the front bar. A couple of spacer plates required, but plenty of room to fit it with the bar on the car and no need to rotate gearboxJob for next weekend...
New sound system (cheap and nasty but I can connect my ipod) fitted in the carpark of super$$auto with only a screwdriver, wiper blades, drained ATF and replaced, added a permanent fishing kit for sneaky quick fishes in the adelaide metro area (not that there are many opportunities).
