Replaced the aging coil springs with Britpart performance lifted. The ride has been greatly improved but I don't like the yellow color of these coil springs.
Last Saturday I did both front wheel bearings and swivel hubs...

Traced through the wiring on the Puma and found another 40A narva relay for the spotties is stuffedThey pull nowhere near 40A.Gotta hunt around for a quality relay.
Picked up the D4 from ARB,the front looks different
Fittted a 22mm socket and 1/2 to 3/8 reducing adapter to the bolt that lowers the spare. This is so with a 3/8 extension bar and ratchet you can lower the spare without emptying the rear......
I've had a busy week on the 2a, but today, all I've done is take the Defender for a drive into town
Tomorrow I'll be back into the old one
Replaced the rear brake drums and shoes on the County. For once, no problems - everything came apart and went together as expected, with no difficulties. As the new drums came unpainted, I gave the outside a coat of heat resistant paint, after washing the drum in thinners. I find it far easier to remove and refit the brakes shoes with the hub out of the way, so I had got new lock washers for the bearing nuts, and new gaskets for the drive flanges. Allowing for the paint to dry, I took most of the morning.

AlexH and myself stripped the tarp off Alex's new acquisition, half filled the tank under the seat and he climbed in, applied a bit of choke, then touched the starter button.
Is it Lawrence, Laurie or Lorry ? He started beautifully and ran as smooth as the 1.6 litre motor can.
I climbed into the passenger seat, pausing only to fold the windscreen down, away we went around the paddock, I was the typical back seat driver yelling to Alex on his maiden drive of 'Laurie' that "you should go down the steepest part of the bank".
The wife came out of inside on her way to see her mum, saw us cruising past for about the third time around the block and made some sort of derogative comment about the two mentally disorganised middle aged products of dubious parentage. ( hope Ron doesn't think I was trying to dodge the swear filter by writing that).
The free wheeling device that was fitted to these first years Land Rovers wasn't locking, the ring pull hole in the floor was there but it has the yellow button and doesn't seem to be connected.
Down the bank with the front wheels offering no engine braking and the back tyres slid all the way from top to bottom.
I love the way these proper Land Rovers climb! up out of the little 'Ranga' river flat, climbing with only the sky in front of us until we reached the top.
"That was fun" Alex remarked after the fourth time, so around we went again.
Previous owner Ian having a last drive before loading 'Laurie' onto the trailer.

Grrr.. Went looking for the drivers side mirror.. Second time (and second mirror, housing and all) in a fortnight that some b&stard had knocked clean off the car (D1). Parked well off the side of the road and have no idea how this has happened once let alone twice.
Out of spares now so on the scrounge..

The new headlights finally arrived yesterday.
So I fitted them to the new-ish Disco 1, nice BRIGHT HID things, can actually see at night now.
John?
What series of D1 you got? I may have a pair of those new fangled electric mirrors, I hate the tiny little things and replaced mine with "proper" truck mirrors. My Disco 1 is late 93 build, pre-update.
