ahha the days of creatively using the rules to your advantage. like the tales of the throttle restricter plates that weren't allowed to "have any material removed" from them, so they would bore out the hole and glue all the removed material back on in a different place so nothing was actually "removed" but instead just moved.
personally think that is an urban myths, but sounds interesting.
As the story goes ................
Polystyrene restrictor plate for scrutineering. Petrol would then dissolve the polystyrene and it would go safely through the engine. :)

Had an AU electric fan assembly sitting in the shed, so after fitting the new aluminium radiator used the old radiator on my work bench to cut & shut the AU housing until it fitted like a factory one on the landy. Now to go for a drive to test it out.
Pics??? How is the aluminium radiator. Got the au fans and thinking of going down the same road with radiator.Quote:

It's a bit to cool to see how it goes yet but first drive it gets up to running temp much faster, I have set the fans to come on at 85c and off at 83c, hasn't gone over 85 but as I said its not hot yet.
Much much quieter with out that huge fan hanging off the front of it, now I can hear the crisp sound of the engine rather than the roar of a 747. It feels like faster response To the throttle and when I sunk the boot in chirped the wheels turning off the hwy onto my road - got some startled looks for that one :D:D
The biggest questions will be can it move enough air when towing or labouring off road and what difference to fuel consumption. I tend to drive it like I stole it much of the time but looks like I have a job on the mines so I will be driving it 13 hrs each way 2 on 1 off so fuel consumption has to be factored into it.
So I will remain open minded and see after it gets into full summer
Took on the leaky swivel balls.
I don't think they have been off since put on in 1989! The double hex nuts holding the swivel ball to the axle casing looked prehistoric. I thought they would stop my advance but a propane torch, wd40 and a good quality extra long ring spanner got them turning. The brake caliper bolts were the ones to worry about.. three rounds of heat/wd40 + breaker bar + broken arms is what it took.
Whole hub assembly off allowed me to replace from the rear with all new seals, retainer and bolts ... much better!
Shame the swivels are pitted and will probably start leaking again sooner or later. Another job another time! Replacing EP90 with thicker swivel grease should help, and the pits are to the outer extremes of the ball so I will be parking with wheels facing forward :)

Runs better now with no hint of stalling or overshooting up or down.

alrighty, this weekend I put a couple of recovery points onto the front of the bull bar and also re-fitted my bash plate ..but this time better, stronger :twisted: (tore it off with a small doozy on my last trip)
washed, scrubbed and painted chassis and under my guards.
also today I picked up a set of 3" springs (these are going on tomorrow) and a set of P38 leather seats (full kit) :D which hopefully I can retrofit into the disco without too much hassle.

Ok, FYI P38 seats dont really fit a disco. no doubt you can fit the fronts with some mods but the rears dont even come close.
hmm, now what to do with them? anyone want a set of leather P38 seats?:p (I might pop them in the markets sect. I think)
