I am leaving at the end of the week for a big trip. So the plan was to pack the car and see how it all fits in. But i was distracted, finally my EGR Removal kit arrived. On top of that i have a De-Cat sitting in the shed waiting to be installed. So i did them instead.

With it being a lovely day and no rain for once. I called up a mate for some help and we installed both of them. The EGR took about 2 hours to do as i didn't have the tools i required. That time included the round trip to Bunnings for supplies. As well as running back and forth to the computer to work out where i needed to block up the vacuum hoses.

Im not the most mechanical guy but i'll give it a go and think logically. If i had to do this again on a mates car. I could half the time at least with ease.

Then just as that was finished my mate rocked up with all the tools and we attacked the De-Cat. Everything went perfectly. None of the bolts were seized and a pleasure to undo. The chaise cross member was a bit tricky to undo the back of the bolts up top. As i have a sub tank on one side and water on the other. A bit of a squeeze but all out in no time. The old pipe fell away once the sway bar was undone and new one put back into place nice and easy.

Next up was a trip into the Dandenongs to test out the car. Wow i can feel the difference. Less gear changes are required and i have heaps more pulling power. This was a great upgrade for the car. And taught me that working on cars isn't as scary as it first looks.

Fitted a roof basket and extra spare, ready for my trip to Camerons Corner and the Strezlecki Track. Also fitted a TPMS system from Jaycar, also replaced a faulty IPF relay on my fog lights with a standard 30A relay. The IPFs were about $45 where the normal ones are $6.

Not sure if it should be further back or good where it is.

I can beat that, I have not driven my Defender for weeks and it hasn't used any fuel at all in that time.

Had to park George in the NRMA holding yard at Brunswick Heads on Saturday afternoon after the auto refused to shift up from second to third, despite my best encouragement (and some rude words).
Tomorrow George will suffer the humiliation of being trucked back to my home in Brisbane, courtesy of the RACQ.
Then it will be off to an auto transmission specialist for a diagnosis. Hopefully its a blocked valve or failed seal or something simple (and cheap).
I'm pretty unhappy about this as the transmission was only rebuilt exactly 12 months ago. If the cure proves expensive, I shall be invoking the 12 month warranty supposedly offered by the rebuilder.
    Not happy Jan.
Only good thing about it is that at least it happened here and not out in the middle of the Simpson in September.

Fitted a light bar. I fitted it yesterday, but didn't wire it up, just drove around with it and found it too high. So I thought I would mount it lower, I machined up some spacers and fitted it a second time, then wired it up.

Good news is the auto tranny place which rebuilt the gearbox a year ago is honouring its warranty and replacing the governor free of charge.
I'm also getting it serviced and a new internal oil filter while its apart.
