Brushed some surface rust off of the rear chasis rail. Discovered some deeper rot that will need to be cut out one of these days. Painted with killrust in the mean time.
Fixed the driver's door inside handle. Twice. It was rather well bent.
I have fantasies about putting Puma doors on it one day
Went for a drive over near Beeutey's neck of the woods to collect some fire wood from Stirling. Noted how notchy the clutch is starting to feel. Add that to the list of major bits to replace.
Came back and pulled out the passenger headlight to clean up the 6-way earth bullet connector. Unlike the driver's side, doing so didn't solve the dim headlight issue so I added another earth to a nearby point on the wing.
Thanks isuzutoo-eh
Yes, i like the look of that one but the price tag amounts to a significant chunk of my R380 fund.
I found an old thread from 2007 where someone had made one out of a stub axle and flangeless steel hub boss, like the Rijidij one. They were kind enough to list both specific part numbers and where to get them.
Put a new rear door lock in my D2. Unlike most, my spring was fine, there was power getting to the locking mechanism but the old electric motor was knackered. So it still opened and closed ok but didn't lock. Quite humorous when you open the back door and set the alarm off every time you put shopping in the back
So confident with the install that I put the door card back on and reinstalled the cargo barrier. Time will tell if that was a mistake....

changed all the oil's engine/auto/transfer/diffs droped the starter and found contacts worn out cleaned up to keep it going for now till i get a rebuild kit.
also got rid of the lock nuts on the wheels and left the accustic cover off.
wouldent off been able to do it with out swmbo helping due to a bung ankle atm.
and after all that the engine now runs 7deg cooler on adverage but i think the thermostat is not working or has been removed as when its cold ive had the temp down to 75/80deg after 5 hours of driving
Well... This would explain a lot! I have a 'modified' high flow thermostat in my 300tdi that provides good running temps when warm but it takes a while to get there. at Idle it retreats to lower temps.
Also this...
300tdi oil cooler - thermostatically controlled?
