By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Well I bit the bullet today seeing as how I had my work clothes on already. I removed the front springs today on my s2a 109. I discovered that the shackle plates are threaded
. Luckily all the bolts came out easily. I knocked the bushes out using a perfectly fitting socket and a very small chisel to spread the spring "eyes". Easy as
. Not so the chassis bushes. Turns out that all 4x4 sent me the wrong bushes for the chassis
. Too big a diameter, right length. Shame tho as I was actually enthused today. Anyway, the chassis bushes are still in the chassis so I'll have to do the old drill and cut method I spose
, after I get the correct bushes
. My landy has always leaned over on the drivers side
, so when I took the springs off, I noticed some writing on the springs under the centre where the diff sits, in paint. The drivers side said "pass" and the pass side said "drv". Seems some ppl don't read things when they put things back together
. prob happened a looooong time ago before my late dad bought the old girl. Anyway I'll ring all 4x4 up on Monday and hopefully get the right bushes sent out. Hope I can get enthused again soon
.
Cheers Rod![]()
Ok I got slightly enthused again today and removed the front chassis bushes. The pass side was easier coz it was worn, but the drivers side was a pain in the proverbial. Got it out with extra drilling and 1/4 inch cold chisel. Only hit my hand once...ouch!! Anyway whilst looking around while sitting on trusty milk crate, I spied this frightening thinga crack in the chassis. Cleaned it up with wire wheel and was surprised how far up it went. Almost 4 inches vertically and down underneath.
Glad I got a welder. Hmmm now hows my vertical welding skills?? Been a while!
Cheers Rod

I have slowly worked away at my dual battery and storage install over the last many months. I am one week out from a big trip and of course I had left it until the last minute. Here are some details and pics as finalised this arvo.
Gwyn Lewis Twin Battery Tray installed
Plugged up the existing holes with rubber grommets and Sika
Two Deka Intimidator 9A48 batteries - 760CCA and 70Ah. Isolated with a Traxide USI160 unit. Tried to be neat, but it is difficult when space is so limited under the seat.
The USI160 is controlled with the switch (and LED indicator) located on top of the dash in the MudUK Pod. This also houses a volt meter for the second battery (first battery is monitored via my Scangauge II). There are two remaining switch blanks when required.
An anderson plug is wired to the start battery with the sole purpose of running my compressor when required.
Fuse block in the ExBox (under the centre console). Mounted a twin USB socket and cig socket to the front of the ExBox also.
Also ran power to the rear cargo area. Used a fuse block to connect to two cig sockets and and anderson plug for the fridge.
I also grabbed a RAM mount setup for my phone and a second ball mount for my iPad - both to run Hema Maps and other GPS when required.
I went for a simple, easily removable setup in the rear (have had drawers previously, they didn't suit my needs). A simple Ply shelf clad with rubber trimmed with Alu, space cases underneath and fridge on top (yet to decide how best to secure it).
