Took a deposit for the D2 from a buyer in SA who will be flying up and driving it back.
    So decided to
    1. Buy and fit new starter battery - old one wouldn't hold charge for more than a week so was on the way out.
    2. Replaced the auxiliary battery with a used deep cycle one I had which was excess to requirements. The aux battery that was fitted when I bought the D2 was a bit small and was cactus anyway.
    3. Replaced fuel, air, and oil filters.
    4. Changed engine oil and checked others.
    5. Greased unis.
    6. Replaced a couple of globes.
    7. Replaced windscreen washer tubing and 'T' piece.
    6. Threw a couple of spare tyres in the back.
    7. Tried phoning 'Bundalene' to see if he had a radiator/fan shroud available but it appears that he is travelling ATM so am currently fabricating one.

Should be ready by tomorrow arvo for the two day trip to SA.
    Roger

Went for a drive tonight. Got a flat tyre. Got the living shyte scared out of me by a huge roo standing not 3 metres from me while i was changing the tyre in the bush on a dirt road. Just heard a thump as i was standing on the wheel brace in the almost pitch dark. Looked around with light on on the phone and there it was, looking at me. I jumped and when i fell back to earth a minor earth quake ensued and i yelled at it and ran towards it and it took off. Thank goodness. That got the heart rate up and the adrenalin going. I did a F1 speed wheel change almost i reckon. I took a couple pics of the lights on the s3.
    No.1 low beam (sealed beams)
No.2 high beam with 2x6" light bars below headlights and 1x50" light bar above roof. Like daylight for about 400 metres.
Both were taken with the old 186 ticking over at about 450 rpm.
I took the pics after the heart rate was back to normal. Drove home. No further incidents.

    Cheers Rod.

Tyre that went flat is the one i fixed the other day. Bugga.

Servicing the 2a and cleaning it up a bit for the Expo.

Actually started yesterday. First step was to put the front wheels up on ramps, and pressure wash underneath to remove most of the cow dung and mud. Let that dry off a bit and moved it onto the concrete. Then put all four corners on stands, and removed the wheels.

Then pressure washed it again to remove some of the stuff. The cow dung is certainly sticky, and dries better than the paint.

Drained engine oil, replaced filter, serviced air cleaner. Removed rocker cover, and adjusted tappets. No sign of valve seat recession, all tappets needed about 1/10 of as turn tightening (valve seat recession would be shown by closing gaps). Replaced rocker cover and fixed the leak in the petrol pipe resulting from disturbing the hose fitting on the in line filter. (The pipe is clamped under the front bolt on the rocker cover.) Checked ignition timing. Checked condition of points and gap.

Checked and topped up swivels, front and rear axles, gearbox, transfer case, steering box, hydraulic reservoir. Greased clutch pivot, handbrake relay pivot, four U-joints and two sliding joints. Checked all spring bushes, tie rod ends, U-bolts. Used high lift jack to take weight of springs, and painted springs with a mixture of oil and turps.

Adjusted brakes. Adjusted handbrake. Inspected all brake drums for signs of oil or brake fluid. Topped up radiator. Topped up washer reservoir. Straightened step on driver's side. Removed front prop shaft to replace damaged boot on sliding joint. Found front bolts loose. Will get new bolts and nyloc nuts tomorrow, so it is still off.

Still quite a bit to do.

Finished service on the 2a (more or less). Prop shaft back on, checked oil level in overdrive, cleaned some more mud and cow dung off underneath, put wheels back on, took it off stands. Still to clean up inside of cab, oil door hinges and throttle linkage, drilube on door locks, check all lights operating, clean windows.

I repaired a previously repaired puncture on the s3. Ended up fitting a new tube. The tyre has good tread but the tyre bead area is a bit ratty. The tyres are remoulds not retreads and i bought them of ebay a while ago for $1.00, or actually 0.99cents, For 4 tyres on rims. So good value i think if i can wear them out on the s3 which was really only bought as a spare parts car but it was way better than the s2a i am doing up, see my betsy rebuild thread. I thought id just have some fun in it, but im actually enjoying it heaps.

I also fitted a roaded (less than 400km) dunlop road gripper 750 x 16 to a disco 1 rim in a tubeless configuration to see what they look like. They seem to fit ok. I have 5 of these tyres and 6 x d1 rims so i might see how they fit on the s3 and how they perform as tubeless tyres. I noted the tyre has tube type on it so i spoke to the tyre mob and they said tubeless was ok. Tube type tyres are smooth inside so the tube doesnt rub through on the inside of the tyre. So im hoping they will be good coz i actually bought them for the 2a.

    Land Rover....im lovin it..

    Cheers Rod

Regular trip into town for supplies. Doesn't sound like a major effort, but we have had a bit of rain lately. No choice of route, as the Talbragar is up above all bridges at the moment.

As I was leaving, got a call from a neighbour about ten kilometres away "Are you going to town today? If you are, take a chain, as there is a big branch down across the road in the middle of Goan Ck!"

I already had the chain, a handwinch, a recovery strap and about 30m of heavy manilla rope in the County!

In the event, it turned out that branch was not an issue - I could go round it on the hard crossing, so I left it, not wanting to get my boots filled with water (about six inches in the creek). There were two trees across the road further on, one needed the chain to pull it round enough to get round, the other was light enough for me to lift the thin end and walk it round.

The only real issue was a boggy spot about 100m from my front gate, but it had a hard bottom, albeit very rough, about a foot down. Water across the road in four or five spots, but none of them boggy, and none, except Goan Creek and Spring Creek running - both of these less than a foot.
