I had the disco for a while now and i finally get to cleaning the plenum and pipes etc.It seems that the oil separator was so full that it let plenty of oil into the plenum .My fuel consumption are shocking ,its a 94 v8 disco .When i disconnect the MAF its still running the same and i still have a stinging fuel smell out of the exhaust .My understanding is the hotwire in these dont take too kindly to oil or lpg backfire ,which i had when i got the truck. To the extent its actully wrecked my airbox. So do i need a new MAF ?
George
Yes it is tight , i was kinda hesitant to hit it with any cleaner .I'll give it a try ,but like i said the maf is covered in sludge .
George
you will need to clean the maf and workout were the oil is coming from.
a maf tells the engine computer how much air is entering the engine so crude on it may change the sensor readings
On a LPG powered D1 you need to reconnect the engine breather to the stock OEM position on the throttle body. Otherwise you will always be loading oily fumes into the MAF. Reconnecting breathers to before the MAF is done on vehicles with a good working PCV breather system, unlike the D1/RRC V8 engines.
Wrecking the airbox indicates that the spark plugs/timing aren't optimum, set plugs to an 0.7mm gap and timing to 10 degrees BTDC at idle. Replace the plastic air box with a metal cylinder air cleaner off a '93 or earlier D1 or RRC 3.9 vehicle.
You can clean the MAF with contact cleaner. Spray it in the small round hole in the MAF, this is where the wire is. Look up a setup proceedure by LOVEMYRANGIE and set the correct voltages on the plug.
Does it run bad on petrol and gas. The MAF is not used when on gas.
Cheers, David.

Thanks guys , ill try to clean it tomorrow . The funny thing is that it runs the same on both . Idle jumping a little but doesnt stall , its just using plenty of petrol and gas . It sort of gradually losing power , the reason i suspect the MAF because it doesnt make a difference running it with or with out it.Bee Utey funny you mentioned the metal box i already have one off a series 3 .

Mike , thank you . The vacum advance is good , i really anal about maintenance hence i finding all this things . Dont know about the previous owners though. I must correct myself its still running fine-ish but uses a lot of petrol . I have no idea what an acceptable usage on gas , it seems high but it could be a badly tuned system . My aim is to run it on petrol as perfect as possible . .I replaced the leads , plugs , dizzy cap . Its running better than when i got it . .Lucky i like tinkering with my cars if i dont have to , if you know what i mean . My daily driver just gets dropped in the shop .
