Wow this thread escalated while I've been away! Thanks everyone, given the issues highlighted I'm now thinking of just getting some black 7" Dynamic Rims (the thicker heavy duty model) with +20mm offset, I'm hoping with these I'll be able to get away with both 235/85 and 255/85 tubeless tyres so I have some flexibility in the future. I'm a bit wary of too much negative offset but I'm not too sure how much offset should just fit the 255's. Cheers guys
I have had all four of these problems with my Defender, and on average tubes only last half as long as the tyres I have used. Apart from the most recent problem, which was a malicious attack, I have often had tubes fail, more times when I used Michelins, and mainly due to the rough surface inside. I still run tubes on my LR wheels, but also have a set of Dynamics without, fitted with KM2s that I use for serious off roading. I have thought about changing the road rims, but don't like the D1 or the alloy rims, so have left it for now.

I have always run the defender on tubes, I have not had issues with dismounting tyres at low pressures nor flats due to rubbing through the tube. I think the main reason for people wanting to use tubeless is that they don't know that they are running tubed tyres and it comes as an unexpected expense when told they have to pay $35 extra per wheel for new tubes.
I have a number of Disco one steel rims so have the choice of running tubeless just have not done it yet, maybe next set of tyres.
I run 255's on 20mm offset on a County ( Same as Perentie) no problems.. I did roll a tyre off during extreme 4wd'ing, low pressure was the culprit but I think it wouldn't have happened with 235's & 5.5 or maybe 6" rims as they would have had better grip on the rim. Can't have it all unfortunately..
As well as having several wolf tube type rims, I have a set of 5 tubeless rims bought secondhand with good tyres on them. Former owner replaced them with wider ones and bigger tyres. Appear identical to wolf tubeless rims but do not have a Land Rover part number on them. Apparently they were imported as aftermarket parts to Western Australia where the vehicle they came off was previously was. Most likely came out the same factory that supplied Land Rover.
I've seen others fit tubeless tyres on perentie rims without issue which I'm about to do myself as sick of constantly leaking tubes- the tyres that were on mine from the army are actually stamped tubeless but "can be fitted with tubes".
I have the standard 6" steel wheels on the perentie. I'm looking to replace the tyres soon, is it safe to install tubeless tyres on these rims? Google has given me an array of answers in general, all contradictory. I'd like to chuck some 235/85's on and call it a day. Anyone done this?
Cheers,
