Firstly the 300tdi filter assembly is too small for a 3.2TD and even marginal on the tdi. Automotive filters are often on the small side due to space considerations. Off-Highway filters are not which is why the sizes you are getting are larger, plus they are optimising around WOT rather than typical driving.

From memory they were developed for F250's and Rams.
Not sure what differwnt sizes they make though.
The powercore is the most compact filter available. However I would only use one if absolutely necessary as they have a higher pressure drop than a conventional filter with the same surface (filter) area.

MANN+HUMMEL had a similar product called the compact plus, however AFAIK they have discontinued development of new models.
Instead they are going for a "variopleat" system for applications where the filter needs to be as small as possible. These systems look like they perform better than the powercore. However there are only a few models available at present last I heard.

    Fleetguard numbers:
    Housing Assy AH19066
    Main filter AF4095K
    secondary filter AF4013

From memory they are equivalent elements to the ADF turbo ones. Main restriction with that setup on the county is from the 3" snorkel and corrugated flex tubing to the air filter.

Some alternate air filter housing ideas in this thread from the Isuzu section which might be of interest: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/isuzu-land...housing-3.html

Something to keep in mind is that Ranger factory housing is going to be a big compromise in cost and airflow, and is likely to be spec'd for emissions rather than max performance.
The info from Donaldson/Fleetguard etc gives airflow at at specific restriction (such as 10"H2O). The factory housing may well be more restricted than that but unless someone has measure and posted somewhere its unlikely that info is published.
The other thing is the engine will likely never operate at the peak airflow you've calculated for very long, so as long as your "normal" airflow is within what the filter is spec'd for it will likely be OK IMO.

If you do the airflow calcs on a 4bd1t and compare to the specs for the housing I'm running you'll get a feel for what I mean. Not saying that I've got a perfect setup by any means, but it works OK and as I said above the main restriction isn't the housing - its the snorkel/hose. Before I put the snorkel on it would only trip the filter indicator (15"H2O) under really heavy load + max RPM.

Quick update, all the usual suspects, Donaldson, Mann, Cummins air filter housing were too large for the space with the required air flow.

A filter engineer was consulted and despite the figures suggesting need for +585CFM flow it would be safe to use a filter with 360CFM flow.

We've gone with a flat panel filter from an 7.3L F350 TDV8 and custom box to suit the space.

Should be a better solution than massaging an air box from a different manufacturer into the space with all the compromises that come with that.

That problem solved, move onto the next in line.
