Oil in Harness - Thread No.480202, a different queston...

    Ok,

Got Oil in the harness, will get a new one for under the rocket cover... no problem...

But the Oil in the harness to the ECU ... reading about flushing them, coke bottle, etc etc etc

Do I need to remove this harness from the Defender to do this, or can I do it without removing it ?

If I am removing it .. how long will it take, is it easy ?

Whats the current status of making sure this friggen thing not happen again..

Anyone attacked LR about this, even out of warranty due to it being a manufacturing issue .. not a wear issue ?

Has anyone got a step by step, illistrated example of it all .. or am I going to be have to this?

But if anyone has any more information, I would really appreciate any helpful hints etc.

Also, Do I need to replace the rocket cover gasket ?

I started reading this and thought the capitalisation of each word was for humour.

Now I'm not so sure but it sure makes reading it difficult.

    Hi Cameron
I didnt remove my harness, did it all as it lays.
Take the orange seal gasket out of the red ECU plug it will let the oil drain easier.Just remember its not there before you go swiming.

oil in injector harness and wiring harness

    [1999 def TD5)

I've just had this problem on a long holiday to Cooktown combined with a failure in the Driver Demand ( normal people would call it an accelerator unit) assembly. Its technical name is Potentiometer. Replaced injector harness, wiring harness and driver demand unit and also turbo intercooler hose (soft). Total cost fitted at LRO dealers with parts freighted from ? Sydney $4210. A real pain and a drain on holiday funds.

I am facsinated with the oil in injector harness it is apparently an ongoing problem and the only solution suggested by dealers is to check for oil at the wiring harness/injector plug and if oil present discard and replace injector harness. Prediction is will need doing every 30000 - 50000 klms.

The do it yourself coke bottle and metho seems a cheaper solution but it does seem like a manufacture's fault that LRO should be working on fixing.

Is there anyone out there tried to approach LRO ??? and if so what is their contact.

I have just been through this with LR after my Graeme Cooper service found the problem in my SII Disco in the first week of Dec. I had (just expired) the extended warranty (not worth the paper it is written on). Rang LR, knowing that they had issued a recall in the UK years ago for this fault.

Was told initially that they would not accept the diagnosis as a stealer hadn't found it. OK, booked into a stealer for a five minute peek to confirm diagnosis. Done. Went OS for two weeks, when I came back there was a letter from LR stating that they accepted the problem existed in my vehicle, but that it was basically stiff sh*t as they extended warranty did not cover electrical harnesses. (Wonder if I could classify it as something else - faulty / leaking rocker cover??) They also put in a platitude about how committed they and the insurer were to ensuring that the customer (me) was happy.

    Horse Sh*T!

I am very annoyed. These clowns have known that this is a problem for years - they continued to sell the TD5 in Australia , unmodified, for several years after they knew of the fault. AT least pommy customers got the benefit of a factory recall and 'fix'. Apparently over here it was just a service advisory (or similar) to quote look for it unquote.

I wonder how all the folks forking out big $$ after viewing the latest LR ad campaigns regarding SIII and new LR sport would feel if they knew how this firm actually regards customers after market. I am thinking of ways of using this in an online 'counter campaign'. I think that if they treat existing clients like this that they do not deserve new ones, and the wider public should know. I am keen to see how LR Australia will like that.

    Any other ideas?

    Td5 Oil In Harness

Sorry About The Caps Folks I Don't Know How It Happened,no One In There Right Mind Would Sit There And Do It On Purpose.
Pedro, unfortunatly I Didn't Say If You Have Been A Good Customer, and Had It Serviced They "would "replace It.with Lr There Is No Consistancy Which Makes It All The More Frustrating For All Of Us Who Do Have Td5.hope This Helps.
Ps.yes I Would Push Lr Harder.
