MY Uncle Willy had a Thornycroft truck with a 4 x 3 twin stick sliding gear crash box. That was a trick to learn to drive, particularly split shifting where you are using both sticks, one upshifting and one downshifting. No clutch as the clutch leg was holding the steering wheel, the other foot was adjusting revs. Both hands off the steering wheel and on the gear sticks.

nah it aint "you". Not agreeing with Dave is totally different to trying to prove that he is wrong.

ah now i see where you were goin... i had in my mind you fencing exploits mixed with bent steering arms and put one and one together - nothing more sinister!

With regards to being right or wrong, you are right - it is possible to shift on the fly without noticeable damage
and Dave is also right - shifting on the fly elevates the risk of damage.

anyway, if I had your spares collection, I'd be more carefree too!

not at all I know a lot of people do it. This is the warning for what happens when it eventually all goes horribley wrong...

We're not allowed to repair the lt95 at work as after nongy filled it up with shrapnel he couldnt get high so he picked low and flogged it to get it home for knock off rather than wait for recovery.... wont mention more than that due to the type of people involved.

What Im waiting on is an LT230 so I can do a this is the field fix for the dogs. They dont normally go in this spectacular a manner they normally round the dog teeth off enough to prevent engagement or let it slip out.

Ive got one that might be coming in for a look see and I was hoping to use this as a precursor for "Heres howto unsnafu your TCase." Sadly not to be as we're not to repait the 95 which is a pity cause its about 1 hours worth of work. (in a fully decked workshop[

Star pickets are for lazy buggers, nothing but treated pine posts, no more than 15' max apart most are closer to 10'

Your right on the mark, he's right, I'm just trying to prove that its possible to do it succesfully forever, without failure, the only prerequisite to do it succesfully is a little mechanical aptitude and empathy

Spares have twindled quite a bit, been flat out doing house stuff

you might dissagree when you have a fire through (sadly)

our place used to have railway sleepers as posts (big feckin holes to dig with a shovel and crowbar!)... after ash wednesday, some had holes 15cm in diameter where the hot wire charred the wood - no fire, just dirty great big holes through the posts... star pickets = no problem through the fire, the tar just melted off.

I'm not a perfect driver when changing from low to high and i do it every morning, but i don't do it at speed as i'm only reversing up the driveway, then changing from low to high when only just moving.

I can see that if you do get it wrong at speed it can be expensive.

We can't all be perfect all the time, well i can't, dunno about others here
