Yeah the early ones had a few problems but think how many of these engines have been made. The later (after 96 i think) and a 599 block had sorted a few issues out with cracked blocks, heat. ONe thing they don't like is to much boost, thats why the heads crack.
Like anything there is a site dedicated to them, very helpful bunch and a hell of alot of help. The Diesel Page - for the 6.2L, 6.5L, and Duramax 6600 (6.6L) GM Chevrolet and GMC diesel engines.

Is there a site dedicated to the 4BD1 other than the 4btswaps? Just curious for info on them

I have nothing against the cummins diesels I know they are great motors. I just haven't found any information on swapping one into a rover anywhere and I have no machine shop access or for that matter abilities so I had passed it by with much regret.

Just found this thread on 4BTswaps.com about the chev V8 diesels. Scary stuff, but it is a site by cummins fans so keep that in mind.

Is in an 85 rangie, the swap was done prior to me getting the vehicle.
But I've had the whole thing in and out many times.

    In a nutshell:
    More compact starter than original
Unbolt oil filter mount, add two plates and hoses to make it a remote setup.
Check turbo/bonnet clearance. Mine was IHI manifold which had it's neck cut and flipped over.
Make new turbo crossover pipe (2" exhaust tube) or plumbing for intercooler and dump pipe.
Fab up mounts which fit standard industrial isolators on the rover V8 chassis mounts.

Isuzu gearbox, take off back cover, fit adaptor plate and adaptor shaft, bolts up to LT230 in original position.
Trim surplus neutral switch off gearbox for clearance. Rig up cable change gear lever (Mine has an austin allegro lever grafted in)
Clutch is hydraulic, works with factory MC.

    Electrical.
There's a solenoid pack which controls fuel shutoff and starting enrichment, then it's either 12v or 24v depending on the market it was originally for.

    Clearance:
Fit 1 inch longer bumpstops in the front, flip the front driveshaft.

By mods to the 700 I'm assuming beefed up internals are what you mean to handle the extra torque.
What age is the 300 ?, i have 2 x buick V6's and the bolt pattern is different to a rover.

    the buicks are 64-67ish.

It sounds like the cummins swap was quite the overhaul. I unfortunately need to keep mine a auto so the wife can drive it on occasion like family vacations etc. Is there a site that has the adaptors or is this something that was made locally?

From what i've read, the ZF can't handle the isuzu rattle, it seems to detsroy the box (just ask justinc). There is a mob in the U.S that does adapters for the Turbo700 to 4BD1 and these seem to work well
