well I don't think it will make it a speed demon but I think it would certainly help when towing and moving down the trails. I would have to imagine that it has considerable improvements in the torque department.

I reckon a 6.5 turbo would be the only way to go

I think that would be an awesome way to go but I would bet that it would be damn tough to stuff in there. That and with all the 6.2's laying around at work the price may be oh so right lol

Oh and just checking my math here but you get about 15 mpg out of this set up?

Yea I know I'm full of questions lol but I'm looking at one tired 3.9 and wondering what I can do to add some spice to the rover under the hood.

    Thanks in advance
Cooling eventually by a 80mm thick 2 core aluminium radiator and AU ford Thermo fans. Mines an 82 so external fuel pump, i just swapped it with a aftermarket performance one and ran a 6-9psi regulator. I also run a Turbo 700 trans with a low stall (1000) 6 bolt converter. I would have liked to move it back an inch or so (went straight in where my 308 came out) as they are a little longer than a standard chev but it is big block size. Exhuast manifolds had to be cut and shut but know big deal, just heat em up and mig them, weld up good. No articulation probs either.
Dunno what it is in mpg, but it is alot better than the 10mpg i was getting with the holden V8.

As Matt said, nothing exciting, its not a race engine but put a trailer on and you don't know its there.

    I met a guy that had a twin cab F250 4x4 (80's vintage). He replaced the 302 clevo with a 6.5 Hummer Diesel .

It has a 4 speed manual and he says it does 17mpg at 110 to 120 kph and when pulling a tandem axle Jayco poptop at 90 to 100kph, it still does 17 mpg. Last I heard he was thinking of changing the diffs to reduce the revs at speed. Torque is NOT a problem

    Cooling?

    Cheers

hmmm I was hoping to be able to keep the rover trans. by a chevy 700 I'm assuming you mean the 700r4? well those are cheap to pick up. The exhuast manifolds sound like a bit of a pain. I'm still learning to weld and I'm slowly becoming friendly with my stick welder.

I can probably pick up both for less than 600 us dollars so that's not to bad

Factory figures seem to be 195hp and 430 ftlbs.

Yeah thats from a turbo model, i think peak torque is at 1700rpm and hp at 3600rpm. Hav e been told from an expert that when the pump is turned up on the non turbo model that 195 hp can be achieved.

Yeah Turbo 700 (700r4), but require a few mods to cope. But you need an adapter to suit the trans case.
Manifolds is the easiest bit, just need a wedge cut out before the flange and weld up.
    What year RR Armyrover?

I'd believe it, but I'm wondering about smoke and reliability.
