FWIW Cat run magnetic filter screens in most of the transmission to catch ferrous wear particles. They are a stainless mesh screen with an tubular metal insert with three magnetic rings on them. The do catch ALOT of crap and when they are clogged its usually a good sign poppage is immnent.

OMG! I do use Magnatec oil. Obviously incompatible with magnets!
Does this also mean that if I drive from Adelaide to Darwin, with the residual magnetism induced in the Disco's steel chassis during 3,000Km of travel with the vehicle pointing in one direction in the earth's magnetic field, I should degauss the vehicle before turning it around to drive home otherwise the flow of the Magnatec oil will be impeded through the engine?
After all the Australian Navy degauss their ships (there's a huge degaussing coil laid on the floor of Sydney harbour out near the heads apparently, which they use).
Thanks for that fabulous insight Defenderzook - I'll think of you every time I give the vehicle an oil change from now on.![]()

Only Brocky can answer this
hey, to degauss a td5, could you run a reverse polarity pulse through the engine's electrickery..??
like just swapping the battery leads over just before shutdown![]()
