I dunn o but suggest you pm Ladas on this site for advice - he's our aircon expert.

that pipe -surely the wreckers would have one ?
Hi All, finally took the plunge today and pulled out my dash in order to get to the aircon pipe that comes in through the firwall on my '93 Disco v8i. Took about 2 & 1/2 hours to get it all out.
I went to Pirtek (weird driving around with just a steering wheel and bare minimums in front of ya'*see pic*), but they can't match the thread on the enginebay-end of the pipe and I have already spoken with an alloy welder who told me that the area that's split is too damaged to repair. He did suggest cutting the section out and putting in a hose section with heavy-duty hose clamps but I don't know whether that will hold in the aircon gas even though this is the low pressure(35psi max), side of the system.
Thoughts?
Or better yet, anyone got one of these? Part no. is BTR5980.
Since I've got everything out I might go ahead and put in a replacemet blower box that I have that is in better nick than the one that's in at the moment as well as go around and check the wiring since I have some gremlens in the loom too.(see fuelpump thread).
Man that's alot of wires!!![]()

hi frontier1, to me it looks like you have enough tube under the black foam insulation to flare in a sleeve and nut, then use a nipple to join that to another piece of tube to take it out through the firewall and fit whatever end mr pirtek would like to connect his hose to.
you don't say where you are, if on the gold coast or near i am glad to help.
Stoopid question time. How would that have been damaged to that extent?
Hi Guys,
Harry, I'm on the Central Coast in NSW so not near you but thanks for the offer! Also the 2 bends in the pipe make the "sleave, nut, nipple" idea impossible I think.
Tank, Pirtek suggested they could weld it, can't do it though for another week. My other welding guy said he could do it, price would be more than the Landrover replacement which BTW is $198 + gst + freight from Melbourne (also a week +).
Waynep, I know the Ladas well, top bloke but I can't imagine he will recommend hoseclamps, etc. Then again, if he does, I'll give it a try. Whats the psi strain on heavyduty clamps? Anyone know?
4bee, almost didn't answer this one due to my own stupidity.
There was a fitting on this pipe in the enginebay that was almost impossible to undo (not a LR product but an aircraft one-way "quick disconnect" fitting that allows you to totally disconnect the aircon from the system without losing gas). I have no idea why it is there.
A large enough pair of shifters did the job but I didn't realise in all the pulling and pushing on the shifters that it was also twisting the pipe on the cabin side of the firewall.
The result is what you see here.
Pete'
hose and clamps wont work....
have the pirtek guys try the following (and it should be cheaper)
cut your existing pipe saving as much of it as possable
fit compression flare fittings to the ends that have been cut and then use appropriately rated hose between the flare fittings if need be make the hose long enough to do a loop (do a dummy run to work this out) to relieve stress on the hose.

Hi Dave,
Always good to hear from you. I’ll print this out and take it along with me tomorrow. It’s worth a shot and sounds cheaper than my other options.
Cheers, Pete’
