Actually, no. They got it right in this instance. Big heavy-duty truck diffs with custom ratios, reduction hubs and 15" (?) drum brakes.

    Never heard of one breaking.

The comp is on the 20th of september, i'll put it in upcoming events. Landrovers were a bit outnumbered last time.

You could do with a few paragraphs yourself, 1 big blob is hard to read

    I'll leave that upto you

In most cases the need is not there for the larger tyres, except that others run them and make deeper ruts so it becomes a keep up with the jones' sort of thing. Especially if you do alot of on road at speed. It is up to each person to make their own decisions as to the use of their vehicle. But it is an expensive exercise that can lead to alot of breakages and downtime if not all done at once. This forum is full of it. As I said if that is your thing, go for it. But in the end it is all about percentages. Just like trying to get more performance out of an engine, you get to a point where you are spending ever increasing amounts for diminishing return at the expense of reliability. The 1% of stuff I can't do, to me is not worth putting up with the crap from 99% of the public. Especially when it includes those who have the ability to take away my fun for extended periods of time because I thought I was special and decided to ignore all the guidelines because I reckon I know better.
I have heard it all before.

Anytime you feel like comeing for a trip in the high country, albeit, you may regret running small tyres

Look, the thing that annoys me is the attitude that blokes with big tyres are *******, I mean really?

I run 35's, I towed a rangie homes from Sydney with my "**** factor" mobile, I drive it most days, as will the wife, legal? No, just like alot of other things in life, let me do a RW inspection on your's and we'll see how legal it is

I don;t have a problem with you whole point of view on large tyres, in a whole, your spot on, undue stresses, brakeing is lessened, body roll, roll centres, breakages and so on, I just don;t care for the attitude, that someone else useing the bush, much like yourself, won;t accomodate in your stereotypeing, others with different ideas on what getting out there is

As stated before, we ALL use the bush, we should ALL stick together, not bag each other out

I know what you meant, but don't know who'd take the **** of professionally engineered and road legal d2 that has unimog 404 axles and runs 40 inch tyres. If had half a clue about computers i might have been able to post a link to the article or a picture but alas i can barely even type. It appararently doesn't work out that much more expensive than giving landrover axles the full treatment to get them as strong as they can be. The unimogs with portals and built in lockers would still be much stronger than these. Just ask those who've done the upgrades it cost's thousands to run axles with lockers that would put up with the load even 35's put on let alone 37's.

I'm sorry but I am a little confused.
I tried to answer the guys question, as did some others and offered up some technical information. Also some OPINIONS on larger tyres. The attitude came from some not wanting to hear some-one elses opinion.
I figured you would exclude yourself from the observed stereotype as it didn't apply to you, as one of the exceptions rather than the rule I eluded to, but you certainly made clear which side of the fence you fall on.
I don't have an attitude towards people just because they run big tyres, a persons attitude and the way they conduct themselves has more to do with it. I am a stirrer by nature though, and you do bite well.
I know what I said, I stand buy it and definately plan to do the high country at some stage, on my current tyres. Not only are they small, they are skinny too
    See you out there
