I just towed 2 tons back from the east coast and had to keep backing off on the flet because I get a nudge in the ribs when I get over 110km/hr

Around town it is fine, I get 11 to 12 l/100 city and 15/100 worst case towing 'aggressively'.

With a taper roller bearing T/C conversion the LT95 is the best prospect for longevity and strength IMHO.

    Thanks Justine
So with the 33", 3.54 diffs and the 1:1..... do you find your low range is not as low geared as it could be.
    Kindest regards

    Hi Garry,

Actually, I still have to accelerate down some hills in 1st low The short answer is no, I am completely happy with low range. The only issue is that you MUST fit taper roller bearings to the transfer case intermediate shaft to make the transfer case last...

I still find it a bit of a bugger, in 2nd its to quick, I think the engine braking of the Isuzu isn;t that great, with 16:1 its no wonder, so I think an Exhaust is on the cards for mine

Unless you have a 6 speed Isuzu and 5:1 Atlas

    JC,
What tapered bearing kit do you use? I've been told that the kit sold by Ritters in Melb for example, was different/better than the Army setup, but the Ritters kit is not available anymore ???? I think, when it was available, it cost about $1250 with changeover gears, and your gears had to be in good nic.

If you want a gearbox that'll outlive the vehicle, find one with the Isuzu logo cast in the side. I can help you out with adapter drawings, but the gearlever is your concern.

If you want to smooth the engine out, go for a heavier flywheel. Harmonic dampers will do SFA compared to another 15kg of steel.
The cummins 4BT flywheels are roughly twice the weight of the Isuzu, similar dimensions so I'd expect twice the inertia.
Twice the inertia means about half the speed variation between cylinders firing.

Next time I've got mine out I'll have a measure up to see if I can fit a 10-12mm plate to the flywheel and push the clutch back that far. I'm running the 275mm clutch and Isuzu gearbox. Bush65 has a later engine with 300mm clutch.

The Isuzu 4BG1T is an industrial engine using the same block, it's flywheel in the sectioned drawings is a monster but I haven't gone to the trouble of calculating the weight of it. It would bolt up to the engine, but you may not have room for a clutch.

    Hi Murray,

I ended up buying an EX 6x6 trans complete, and then swapped out the lower High range for some .996:1 gears. Heaven

I still have the 5 speed box that was in the truck my engine came from (3000kms since full reco). It has an overdrive unit at the back, which I presume you would remove to fit a transfer case (Lt230 ??). I also have the gear stick etc, but it's all cable operated, so I don't know how complicated it would be to hook up in a Landy. I'll have to have another closer look at it. The cables would, at least, have to be shortened.
Would this require a custom bellhousing ? or does your adapter design allow for an existing bellhousing ?

    Cheers, Murray
