    Torque Impulse

    Hi all
In my quest for the ultimate anwser to the universe and what to put in my 130 one issue is standing out at this point torque impulse (TI). The thing that destroys most gear boxes, have come to understand that LT95 is the easiest of all options to fit, but even they eventually secume to it in the end.
In a thread I was reading some where (not here??) there was a dicussion on TI in summary it said that TI is primarily transfered through the front of the crank and then along it. The discussion suggested that the fitting of a suitably designed harmonic balancer would help reduce the jarring nature of TI and thus inhance gearbox longevity. What do you all think could a harmonic balancer be designed heavy enough to redude TI to allow for greater gearbox longevity?

Yes I can hear you all now saying that there will be a loss in 0-100 (in how many seconds), but seeing the mass of a flywheel has more influence the further it is from the centre one could machine a small quanity off and with a bit of pyhsics understanding machine up a corresponding amount of metal in the form of a hamonic balancer to allow for little change.

    Kindest regards
    Garry

Just put in a heavier flywheel - and I am not sure the LT95 eventually destructs - there are plenty still running around behind 3.9 Isuzus.

Thats what I will do (fit a isuzu), I have questions and thats what I thought the forum was for?? If your mad about me listing a question my sincere apologies, thought this may have been a question others may have pondered or done.
From what I understand a 5th gear would be an advantage when touring with the standard gearing in a Countys or my 130. One solution fit a isuzu box but thats another load of modifications.

    Kindest regards

As our discussion the other night, fifth gear would be so much better, LT95, 3.54's and 35's it still feels like it needs a fifth gear to just mope along in. did you check out 4btswaps? So are you getting that other motor? It will be handy just for the adapters if they are the same

Correct, mine would happily use 5th on the highway, but it still returns 12l/100, being driven like it should

The LT95 in my 120" has done 296k now and appears its the original in good order, the gearbag, not the Tx

Damo, get back to your body lift and don;t forget to pick me up at 1, we got drinking to do

Pretty much that, just stick it in with a turbo and intercooler, jam an LT95 behind it, live with the shortcomings and drive it

How about an auto? I expect that the TC will take the TI before it gets into the box.

If you drive properly, there is nothing wrong with the lifespan of an LT85 behind a 4BD1. Just don't go towing heavy loads up hills in 5th
