Build stage of MK2 shifter.
Key changes are;
1. Simpler
2. Hi/Lo/difflock assembly completely sealed
3. Shift pattern standard
(note the cast housing is my mock one, new ones are a little different)

Sheldon,
Congratulations on getting this one underway. I'm sure it's been a hard slog and I sincerely hope you're kept busy for years to come.
Well done mate.
All the best,
Nice work Sheldon. Thanks for sticking at it.
Sheldon, thanks for posting the Mk2.
After making my modified version of your earlier model I then turned my attention to installing the hi/low/diff lock level.
It occurred to me that maybe the gear lever mechanism could just be a larger model of the hi/low/diff lock, slightly modified.
The current gear shift mechanism puts most of the strength, wear and balance for the shaft on the drivers side of the gear stick.
The box enclosure of the hi/low/diff lock would provide support on both sides of the gearshift shaft, providing better balance and more even wear.
Regarding specifications, I was interested in how far along are you in making a spud shaft that fits on the MSA output shaft and terminates in the 32 male spline. And how far along are you in making the 32 female spline input gear to match. I thought others would be interested, if just for seeing it![]()
Good call with the Hi/Lo type setup as a main gear lever.
32 spline input gears (LT230, P38 borgwarner and Patrol) are due in mid next week.
MSA to 32 spline shafts not quite sure yet. Because it's such a small order, I've been slotted in when they have machine time....
Most of us have kept the Isuzu drive flange to which we have bolted a similar lump terminating in 10 splines in the t/c.
I would be hoping an MSA to 32 spline spud would replace the above. It would have to be quite long as would the securing bolt.
Hardening the internal splines would present a problem (if required)? I think from memory Dougal went down something like this path and his spud shaft was slightly warped?
I'm not sure what I get excited over more, a nice perfect aluminum TIG weld or beautifully crafted splines.
That's 6L80 inside.
