Easy. Shaft off (4 nuts), drum off (maybe 1 screw), backing plate off (4 bolts). If for some reason you need to undo the flange nut, do that while the handbrake is still fitted and pull it on hard. Hang the backing plate and shoes off the exhaust with a bit of wire. No need to undo the handbrake cable unless it's damaged.

I guess now the question is, just how tightly seized up will those bolts be. Any tricks to make the job easier. I don't have proper hand brake operation at the moment, and the drum and/or a potentially clapped out cable appear to be the culprit. I'm expecting the drum to be full of sand and mud.

If you are only interested in adjusting the hand brake, there's an adjuster sticking out the frontwards face of the brake assembly. Adjust it up until the drum just spins freely. The cable is adjustable from inside of the cab, there's a hand nut on the outer cable under the centre bin.

If you actually need to take off the drum, jack up one back wheel slightly off the ground and rotate the tail shaft to the best location for accessing each tailshaft nut. You can use your foot to rotate the wheel to push the spanner against the chassis if you can't get enough room to swing it. When they are all off, there should be just one screw holding the drum to the output flange. None of this is difficult, just get under there and have a go. No nuts should be seized beyond good tools, just don't use $1 spanners to undo things.

Well, today I put on the new wiper blades I've had sitting in the car for three weeks. And covered the car in mud getting back to the bitumen after we got rained out of the property we were planting dryland cotton at.

Swapped out my front shaft due to some low speed vibrations and adjusted hub bearings which seems to be a bi-annual requirement.

Well not today but the last couple of weeks I have fitted my ARB air lockers at both ends which have the Ashcroft CWP 4.375's, put some new rubber on some offset 16x8 rims (the Toyo Mt's and reversed Disco rims I had fitted on the Winter Wombat trip have been retired).

Just need to get time to test it all out, took it for a run in the local State Forest close to home but nothing challenging enough to really test it out yet.

    Thumbs up

Had been meaning to check the Valve clearances on my Tdi for a while.... but not ever having done it b4, I kept putting it off until I started hearing a different noise or tone in the engine & thought I'd better pull my finger out and get it done.... so, as normal, a fellow Aulro member assisted me in checking/changing the lash caps and doing the valve clearances..... I now feel that I will be able to do it myself next time...... BIG thanks to Tony....

btw: It seems I had luck on my side as we found the cause of the sudden different engine noise/tone..... see attached photo
Once completed & we fired the old girl up - all sounded good again

Yeah mate.... it's just a ring now

Luckily it was only recent as I had only started to hear a different tone/knock in the engine when it was running.... At least I will know in the future if I hear that noise again I'll know what it could possibly be...
