I'd be concerned about the angular forces on those seatbelt mounting bolts and the mounts themselves... simply because they are designed for withstanding something like the force induced by a maximum of a 120kg person accelerating in the event of an accident... not a 120kg person, plus a cargo barrier, plus whatever is behind the barrier...

you have done a good job with the install, but why not go the extra step and make it as safe as you can?

Gap, seat belt bolt mounting etc.

I cited a case in SA where a TV receiver moved forward in an accident & crushed the drivers little daughter between the seat back & the seat belt. She died.

It seems to me a safety barrier needs to be just that or forget it. What if a solid smaller denser load is carried & moves under the grille?

cucinadio, either get your self a correct barrier & have it fitted by professionals or remove the one you have, as it will give you a false sense of security. It's your kid's lives you are playing with & you may have to live with that. I hope not.

mate i could start a tirade of reteric towards your totally unneeded post but i wont !!, i will sleep on it for 24hrs and then thinks whether its worth my energy!!!!

It has got to be gut wrenching to post up your hard work and then get flamed..
but I believe most responses were posted with good intentions, with your safety in mind.

Please do take the night to sleep on it & read the advice given tommorow from afresh, the cage is seriously not safe the way it is ATM.

I will post you that diagram when I get home.

Having said that, your barrier will be a lot stronger than the genuine LR dog guard (i had one of those and it's NOT a cargo barrier). I'm sure you understand the limitations of yours and won't be expecting it to hold back something large and very heavy. it will be great for most of the stuff one carries on a trip away, swags, sleeping bags, etc., that seem to fill the back of the car.

I fully intend modifying a VN Commodore barrier to suit my P38A (as Milford don't make one for mine). However, I haven't progressed as I haven't worked aout a suitable top mount. It will be more a sleeping bag/swag guard than a rated barrier.

You've quoted "putting others in danger " - I don't think that was written anywhere so therefore it shouldn't be written as a quote.
    mate sorry!!!!

im not intending on putting the fridge up there as i said in

    I've uploaded it to: http://p38arover.com/rover/discovery/706500.pdf

If you study it you'll see how they mount the bracketry.

It's not the first time I have seen a cargo barrier mounted this way and I have to say that a company called Van and ute spares that used to be in FTG in melbourne used to produce a cargo barrier for a Hiace van back in the early 90's which was mounted to the front seat belt top and bottom mounts.

Im not saying that this was right but at that time it was an aprooved cargo barrier.

I think that it will be great after a bit of a tweak to the mounts and good on ya on getting the basic cage for $8 bucks

3; i took the advice of helpfull people that told me not to do it with that one !!!!
But you seem to have done the same thing with this one, so obviously you didn't take any notice of the "helpful people".

cucinadio, it is not compulsory to have a cargo barrier. You do not see any factory station wagon be fitted from the factory with a cargo barrier by Goverment regulations.
If a family get squashed by the cargo in the back of the wagon which was secured by el cheapo straps allowed by the authorities it is Ok only a bit messy for the funeral directors.
If you fit an over kill strong cargo barrier 100% stronger than nothing or cheap straps you are guilty.
I done my home work using common sense Do not ask me what
    Use yours
If I can put my little bit of inputs, what ever you do do not secure the barrier on the seat belts mounting points.
    Cheers

    1. the top straps are angled quite steeply from the attachment bolt. They should really be in a straight line.
    2. The attachment bolts are the seatbelt bolts.

    Ditto the lower mounts.

As Ron has indicated the mounting to seat belt points is illegal, no ifs and butts. If you get cught or worse someone gets hurt your insurance company will not touch you and you will be personally liable.
The barrier will move forward the way it is mounted, not much but maybe enough to hit someone in the head and injure or worse.
See if you can find a set of mounting brackets to suit the Disco. Try a wreckers, this site or Milford direct.
Ideally you should use the correct unit to suit the vehicle, limits objections should the worst happen.
Good job though and absolutely better than not having one.
Can not see the lower mounts.
