g'day Michael, bad news about the dampener. Keep us posted with the box removal. Would be worth, if possible, taking off the bell housing to mount the starter (if required) and seeing if it vibrates without the box....

I'm sure the vibration has to come from a bolted on component and not motor itself, unless its injectors or something I just don't think it can be the crank assembly.

bah, either way, Audis don't vibrate

its attaches or is sometimes a part of the pulley on the front end of your crank shaft.

in the td5 i believe the term damper is as i said a smaller metal 'ring' that bolts onto the front of this pulley and is referenced above as coming loose flying off and breaking things or just making noises when loose.

yes actually in reference to the post of dismantling the output housing it is the rubber block attached/part of the TC mount.

    Unhappy

Today I removed the trans and the flywheel, flex plate and hub spacer and they look fine. I took them around to Doug at nicks performance clutches and he checked them for balance. 1.6 grams out. So no problem there.
I spoke to the guys at the converter shop and they hadn't balanced one from a disco but said they have rebuilt them. There were no weights missing and the car made no noises so I wasn't convinced there was a problem in the converter.
Next I decided to remove the bell housing from the trans so first I tracked down a pump seal kit from driveline at stafford. They had several in stock. I fitted the flywheel, spacer and flex plate. Then the bell housing and starter motor. I then started the eng.
The vibration is no longer a vibration it's a miss in the eng. With all these parts removed it was clear it was a miss in the eng.
With the trans removed the sump was easy to take off so I thought I'll reseal it and check the oil pump bolt. The bolt holding the gear on the pump was already half out. Nothing looked worn or damaged though. Unf$&@ing believable!
Tomorrow I will refit everything and try and con someone in my area who has a nanocom to plug it in and have a look.
    Goodnight!

Hope you find the cause of the misfire. Do note that many of the issues checked in this tread have been covered here:
