yep, handbrake for me is a lot of the noise also, but i still have a driveline vibration on topof the noise.
Here you go, I started a new thread on shift points http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread...35#post1578735 and added a couple videos of light throttle and full throttle accel.
yep, handbrake for me is a lot of the noise also, but i still have a driveline vibration on topof the noise.
took rear tailshaft and brak drum off today, obvious signs that the brake shoes are rattling against the backing plate as there is witness marks on the backing plate that are quite deep and shiny where the shoes sit against. probly not a lot i can do re that as the keeper springs are still quite strong. although whilst it was apart, i also found that the vibration damper had only 1 of 3 nuts tight. 1 other was loose and the last was missing altogether. possibly another area of rattling there as well.
also replaced rear donut at the same time, so time will tell if i have fixed anything or made it worse.
Yeh I had a terrible handbrake noise always had thought it was exhaust related but turned out to be handbrake shoes against backing plate.my mechanic couldn't get their hands on new backing plate so they bronzed it up put new shoes in and replaced input seal.for under $300 it's the best thing that ever happened to the disco.so smooth through the 2200 mark.maf clean maybe nearly outdid it though,so much smoother and the turbo is so much more responsive
yeah i was totally convinced it was exhaust related, changed the exhuast system, which i wanted to do anyhow to a bigger full flow with only a rear muffler but still had noise, was organising to get the flex pipe replaced when i decided to investigate the handbrake.
lucky i did now![]()
Sounds exactly like my day yesterday Rosscoe. I spent a few hours degreasing my handbrake and replacing the output seal, like you I found very strong witness marks in the backing plate but the springs were still very strong also. I've just reassembled with some copper grease on the contact points and the handbrake works a treat. Also had a high flow cat welded in last week so it all feels a lot smoother and free revving anyway.
well, 2 days now and i am noticing trim rattles inside the car i had never heard before. thought i had made it all worse, although now i realise they were there all along, i just couldnt hear them over the rattle of the handbrake.
am now quite happy with it all, seems to be smoother at the 2200rpm point., still a little harmonic but not harsh like i keep expecting ti to be
Tried a little handbrake on this morning but did not alter my harshness/ rattles at about 2300 rpm. Does that mean that it is not my handbrake?
yeah same for me, i literally had to pull the handbrake lever up until the car started to drag on the handbrake ever so slightly before the rattle went away.
now it seems to be gone totally, though not sure from the adjustment or the dissasembling and cleaning.
