My driving has mostly been in traffic on my way to work.I haven't done a full tank yet since I bought it.But so far I'm happy with it.
I kick myself if I don't get at least 700 out of a tank, and I don't hang around.
If I stick to 90, it will happily run past 900kms.
One interesting thing I've found, IIRC the light on the Td5 is supposed to come on at something like 7.5 litres left.
I've filled up when the light just came on and still had about 17 L in it...

Yeah I found that mate the light varied a bit but found at times mine came on at just under quarter and at times just off empty was weird but never seemed to be the same. I suppose terrain etc would have a bearing on that.
I filled it on one tank and took 91litres![]()
couldn't have been a lot left. Not towing I think mine was averaging around 800-850. I had got 940 and done as bad as 700 with a lot of little short trips
A very good question Phillip, i am looking at getting the remap for my D2 as well. I have read in other threads and posts that changing down a gear and lowering the revs lowers the EG Temps however that does sort of defeat the purpose of having the remap to give you more power and torque. I would much rather be passing that other brand 4WD while towing a trailer uphill in a decent rev range rather than revving its guts out and them looking at me saying "It sounds like that large british marque automobile with the aerodynamics of a brick has a rotary in it...."
I am on my second Disco (my first was a 03 TD5 S) and my second is a 04 Classic TD5) and i love them (i shouldnt have sold the first one). They have both had their idiosyncrasises (big word for the day) but after going away from LR im glad i came back.
I am guessing that with the normal day to day driving etc that the extra power and torque will be worth it (i mean who wouldnt want to increase your power from 101kw to 170 in one simple upload from a NANOCOM) and then i will need to fit a EGT guage to monitor the Temps when towing a trailer and going up hills etc once i have had the remap. I guess like the vibration in the rev range around 2150-2250 and the throttle response from standing, you get used to it and you drive around it. I mean im still learning that i need to give a bit more positive pressure to the loud pedal which is hard as im tight as a fish's b*m, so what seems like wasting diesel is a hard thing for me to do mentally. (I dont even have a wallet as my kids might ask for money when were at the shops....) . I am noticing that it does drive smoother and less vibrations etc when i drive it that way though.
Looking forward to that remap and then the large quantity of gadgets i will need to monitor it.
That's one off the reasons I want to put in the EGT gauge so I can see what it is like driving with the standard set up and what sort of temps it would get to.Then what the temps are after a remap.With the same sort of driving.Has anyone got any figures of before and after remap?
Strangy posted up some EGT tests a while back comparing stock vs trs chipped, with and without intercooler, at standard boost and increased boost.

Stock IC and boost settings with a chipped or remap ECU virtually guarantees excessively high EGT's under load.
If you limited the EGT's to same as what you'd see with a stock setup you'd see similar power levels because EGT's are closely related to the Air Fuel Ratio. If you drive to higher but still safe EGT's you'll have more power available.
I think what Strangy's tests indicate is that these remaps don't contain the required data to correctly fuel the motor under heavy load with stock intercooler and std. boost. This results in an overly rich mixture which causes elevated EGT's. Adding a bigger intercooler and/or increasing boost have the effect of increasing the air density in the inlet manifold meaning more air is available to fully burn the injected fuel which in turn reduces EGTs.

I have had 3 tanks through mine so far for consumption of 11.6, 11.9 and 10.7 l per 100 km.
Each tank has had one trip to Sydney down the F3 and back and the remainder my 20Km commute to work in West Gosford from Avoca Beach.
This compares to approximately 18.5-19.0 L per 100Km for my 3.9 RRC, commuting only as it was too expensive to take to sydney.LOL.

Just returned to Qld after Tassie tour in my 2000 disco td5 all up Between 6-7 thou K.s........ 10l per 100k was not a prob however towing a tandem van 2ton the best we get is 16l per 100 then lots of head wind or big hills up goes the consumption again..........Love my disco....thexprinter![]()
jeez I wish this stuff was as prevalent for the v8s as well! I'm lucky to get 500km to a tank![]()
