What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I have 2x 9" spots fitted and temps run at 90 cruising at 100/110kph 93 towing at 100kph. it gets up to 95/96 standing at stoplights in summer (35C-45C).
The hoses, thermostat (standard LR issue), radiator and water pump are a couple of months old, As are the head gaskets and various other bits and pieces in the engine.
Having owned many petrol V8's before these temps don't appear to be excessive to me [thumbsupbig]

ACE Lamp came on, and Speedo stopped working, Now working to diagnose issue.

Washed and polished it this morning and my brother and I took our Discos to a car show and displayed them together.
Then I went out with a mate and his V8 D1 and we ran Jeffrey's Track and White Timber Track and got it all muddy again!
also got two flat tyres and made it home via a can of fix a flat...

Well Chaffy is drive able again for the week. Drivers seat back in for now and handbrake cable hooked up again. Will have to put up wi the SRS light on the dash until I put the passenger seat back in.

Leaving the the centre console out for now. , installed the new gearbox rubber cover and fixed up the outer as best I could. shame you can't get new ones any more. Hopefully should be reasonably water resistant now.

Foam is nearly dry on the carpet. Man that foam is thick. Will reinstall next weekend after I have given the floor a good clean and hit it with a bit of lanolin.

Found a aftermarket wire under the console all taped up and has accessorry power to it. Need to trace where it goes back to and how/if it is fused. Will look into using that to put in some USB chargers for phones and stuff.

Also fitted up my nice shiny new front indicators,thanks to Mario and Heather [biggrin]

Plenty different to the ones I am familiar with. And certainly not the rule in 1999.

Ultraguage is excellent. Shows coolant temp and can set an audible and visual alarm. Cheers

There are some exceptions to the 1999 rule.

Brother had a '99 4.5 Patrol(on LPG) and a few years ago we were on a trip up to Mitta Mitta.
I had a totally clapped out Frontera back then, and was very worried that the long drive in the heat would completely clap it out to the point of no return!

Turned out I had nothing to worry about, and the trusty Patrol overheated all the way and added about 3 hrs to the 6hr trip.
I was driving ahead by a few hundred meters, gauge started to climb on the Patrol was the call on the two way, and suddenly steam and loss of power.
That put me more than 500meters of so ahead now, and I had to find a safe place to turn back to help on the Hume fwy.

The temp gauge on the Patrol basically gave minimal warning of the impending doom about to happen to it.

This story (and others) make me laugh when the 'NissYota fanbois' make snide comments on other fora on the topic of Landrover reliability!

TD42T GU Patrols were the same.
Luckily having a cast iron head saved the day there, but it overheated multiple times and the gauge would start to swing as the a/c shut down which was well on the wrong side of 100°C.
