I guess it depends on whether the limiters are damaged or not.
Usually the whole assembly sits at the lower limit of the sliders, and you push it down to fit it.
Maybe you could make up new stops. The idea AFAIK is that the pump can lift if you hit the tank on something.
I was more concerned at the colour of the pump ie sooty which to me indicates that the injector washers have been leaking.
My pump was perfectly clean at about 150KK when I fitted my long range tank, and my washers were leaking a bit later , so maybe mine is dirty now.

Well, it seems to have gone back together OK. No damage that I can see.

Hmm. They will have to wait for now.
Mine has done 310,000. Has the pump been done in that time? well, it's a VDO.

Bit hard to date it from that, but it can't be 2000, as the car was only built a few months before that, unless of course it was a warranty job. It can't be 2008, because that's when I bought it, and I know I've never done a pump, which leaves 2006, unless my eyes are worse than I realise. Looking at the car's history that would suggest it's done around 170,000 since then, although I know the date would be the date of manufacture of the pump, not when it was fitted.
Anyway, thank you for your help. I will definitely consider the injector washers at some point in the future, although they were allegedly done when the headgasket was done at 245,000.
Can anybody tell me if a 38mm coolant temp gauge adapter will fit the top hose of a Td5?
I measured the outside of my original with calipers and it’s about 42-43mm.
Something like this....

I'll try that again:

M8 can't really see on your photo buy the v8 fuel.pump has 2 spring steel bits that run half the length of the whole assembly. I had one that fell off mine. Cheers
Ps. Scratch that I think you have an oiler. Cheers
All good places. I checked all that with mine and it had me stumped. In the end there must-have been a dry solder joint or cracked board in what LR call the Intelligent Driver Module which is in effect the under dash fuse box. Spins over endlessly and no start. Replaced and let sit with ignition on for 15mins to allow IDM and BCU to communicate and sort out their issues and turn the key and ...instant start.
Cheers
