Clintoo-- I would plan on at least one stud not playing the game,,
just plan for it,, it may not happen but if it does the extra time(and resources!) is considerable--

Yeh. I havent quite broken the news to my inlaws, that I might be occupying their garage and using their pit for a bit longer than the weekend.

but I figure, I would be doing all of that over the next 6-12 months, so I might as well do it all at once, when most of the bits are off. Plus it would make some of the removals easier with less stuff in the way.

Still trying to plan out the best way to tackle it.

    I was thinking:

    Warm engine I would:
remove fan, belts and move AC.
    remove manifold
successfully remove all 10 manifold studs without snapping any thought a warm head would help this this.
    dump oil
    dump coolant
remove idler, tensioner and harmonic balancer
remove Power steering pump, and goose neck hose
I thought I would bolt the goose neck hose to the power steering pump on the bench as I had replaced it a few months ago and it was a PIA to get the hose on from beneath.
    remove oil filter
    remove centrifugal filter
    remove water pump
remove coolant hoses, I was going to change
    do the engine mounts
sump gasket next (as the new mounts should give me a bit more clearance)
water pump back on and balance of coolant hoses
    power steering pump
    harmonic balancer, idler, tensioner
drill out and retap my centrifugal cover as one of the threads is stripped (I put a bolt on it)
    install new studs, manifold
    ac and belt on

starter I can do one evening.
Brakes, hoses, axle o ring and airbags might be weekend following, as there is probably a day of mucking around there.
hand brake, coupler and T case seal, maybe following weekend.
Sounds like a plan! stick the radio on take your time!
Double check all bolts!! Little trick I use is mark nuts bolts with a paint marker after I torque that way my OCD stays in checkWhat happened to your Discovery 2 today?

yeh I was thinking I probably wont be that lucky. I was going to grab a car from work for a week or so. That way I can take my time and not have to rush. The UK seller took about a week to post off the bolts, so I think I'll have another week to complete the manifold anyway.

any thoughts on using freeze and release and using it when the head is hot?

thanks, yeh I saw some guy doing that on a you tube vid. good idea, especially on the sump and propshaft where it is hard to remember exactly which one you have done.

I'll grab a spare car from work, so I wont be forced to rush, if I don't get it done on the weekend it won't be a stress. It makes life a lot harder when you are trying to work to a tight schedule.

Great idea Pedro ... My vote ...

Yep ... "Oh what a feeling, Land Rover!"

She got us from Birdsville to Innaminka via Walkers Crossing Track with a trackside SLS Spring replacement 1/2 way along ... Easy enough job and the flies helped immensely I knew there was a reason I kept the hi-lift jack in the kamper. On the rhs bump stop, jack the trailer drawbar up high enough to get the jockey wheel down, unhitch, the use the hi-lift in the tregg hitch to lift the back of the D2 up and the rover jack and job was done.

Innamincka to Nocundra pub/waterhole for an overnighter (fantastic free camp!!!) and in Thargomindah now.

    Living the dream

To date, 1 X puncture (plugged), oil in the injector loom (running rough at idle but fine at speed and hasn't affect fuel usage - no oil at red ecu plug - just clean the harness plug every couple days), and the SLS airspring .... and ****loads of dust & mud.

    Cunnamulla tomorrow ....

    Yes Mario, a holiday

Poor Stone Stomper has taken an absolute hiding, and despite its missing bits is still doing its job. Bloody fantastic product. Can't recommend it highly enough !!!

    Giving Up.

    let's see.
Loaded the Dicso to drive to Adelaide, get to Mildura (going via the Barossa Valley for a couple of days) and the bloody thing justs dies on me. Wouldn't lock, with the key fob, start but run for only 3 seconds.
Call the RACV next day get towed to the depo they figure out its the fob that has failed and the spare is at home, 800km away.
Towed home, transfer all the gear to another car and leave for Adelaide.
Not once in three attempts to drive to Adelaide have I made it in a Land Rover vehicle.
    Range Rover wiring burnt out.
Disco's head gasket, and this key fob.
which was unable to be figured out at home as when I took it into the local sparkys I would hand over the spare keyfob and not the one that was faulty.
so now there is a 1999 Disco to be sold.

Fobs don't just fail.... even with a flat battery in the fob it will still start the vehicle...
