Doesn't it control the amount of gas flowing to evaporator or something like that?
TX valve = Thermostatic eXpansion Valve

Yep, it's the refrigerant metering device.

Very simply it has a feeler bulb strapped to the outlet of the evaporator, a capillary tube back to a power element which is a diaphragm above the valve and inside this tiny, closed system is a measured refrigerant charge.
As the temperature changes at the evap outlet the pressure inside the power element alters and the diaphragm moves, which opens and closes, or more precisely modulates an orifice.
The high pressure liquid from the condenser is metered through this orifice into the evaporator.

There are other devices that can be used, eg. a fixed orifice, or domestic fridges use a length of capillary tube ( a copper tube with a tiny bore) with a precisely measured refrigerant charge, and larger systems can use electronic valves, low side floats, etc.

My two bobs worth regarding the air con and demisting/winter discussion.... as air is cooled the amount/quantity of moisture it can carry/hold decreases. By cooling the air via the air con it will extract the moisture (and the condensed water will drip out the drain under the car) heat the air again it can hold more moisture. Running air through the air con element and then through the heater element and onto the windscreen causes the air to remove the moisture off the inside of the windscreen...demisting... those of us in the southern states will likely use the air con for most of the year.... cooling or demisting.
Thanks for the TX valve explanation rick130.

I changed the oil and filter and gave the old girl a good wash.
I also put a couple of solid handles on my Titan drawers.

    What, 1000 metres round trip?

I think you need to park her somewhere else, Mario. No one is going to hit her there.

Nah John, I actually go to Doc in Wantirna South, Chemist was in Upwey. Last Friday I drove her all the way to Vermont south for my CT scan. Sort of an outing for her, get to clean the cob webs off her that seem to be building up on her.
