I thought the reason was more due to suspension travel, the nipple can be broken off against the front cross member or some other interference. Probably an off-road thing.

    Auto trans crapped itself!!!

Ah the old 'THAT'S BAD, NO THAT'S GOOD" skit from long ago, of course children, you wouldn't know it!

    "Today my auto trans died",

    "Oh that's bad"

    "No, that's good"

"That's good, how can that be good?"

"Last week I had no problems with it but I took it to a tranny specialist to make sure it was all good,"

    "Right, that's good".

"Today while THEY were road testing it after the rebuild it carked it."

    "Oh, that's bad".

    "No, that's good"

"That's good, how can your tranny carking itself be good?"

"Because they will have to do it again at their expense and not mine".

"Oh that is good", "Your damn right that's good".

I guess I have to wait another week for it now, amazing how **** happens sometimes and it doesn't get all over you!!

Cheers, but that's what happened to my DII today.

    Mike

    Auto trans carked, saga II

Rang the repairer this afternoon, he wasn't happy. Seems I have a sump full of metal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, for those in the know, if the TC is not fitted correctly into the oil pump does it bugger up straight away or could it do say 100 kilometres?

I'm guessing oil pump without knowing any detail.

It was road tested on Friday, 40-50 k, sat in the workshop over the weekend and made less that 1 kilometre yesterday morning.

I don't think I'll ring them again, I'll just wait for them to finish the job!

    Regards

    Mike

Easily, and can actually run a lot longer with the tangs not "homed" properly. The gears within the pump can crack and then essentially disintegrate if the TC is homed too hard, or if it gets caught on the way in. Depends a lot on whats found when it's opened up.

    Thanks

That was the way I was thinking. The shop replaced a clutch and a drum, everything else was in good order.
My train of thought was along the lines of 'it must be a poorly fitted TC causing the pump to suffer catastrophic failure. My problem was not knowing whether that could run for some time or just break instantly and that's it.

    Thank you for your answer.

    Regards

    Mike

When mine went, it was because some ****** in a work shop fitted the oil pump gear upside down, it drove for a year before it went NO DRIVE on me.

Don't feel sad, they some time can come and viist even with option B done. it might take a while though.
Recently they came back on mine whilst my D2 was on loan to some one , then once my D2 returned home, they never appeared again.
