Thread: What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I have just spent an hour or more scrubbing the inside of my D2a, I even gave the roof a bit of a clean to get all that red dust off it
I also emptied out the side pockets in the front doors and I found all sorts of unwanted junk in them, Jeeze you can fit a lot of odds and sods in those pockets.
The back door and the sides where the jump seats used to be was disgusting and took a fair bit of elbow grease to get the muck off.
All is good She looks nice a "Smick" inside now after a hot soapy water bath and some armour all sparingly wiped into the plastic bits, All ready to get covered in crap again on my next trip

What's excellent about the side pockets is that on long road grips you can fit about 8 bottles of water in each...now that's a drink holder! Cheers

I bought a couple of second had horns via eBay, If these aren't up to scratch then ill get a couple of Hella units

first shower of rain experienced on Saturday, of course windscreen leaks like a sieve so back to Windscreens OBRIEN for warranty (son having the Sporty back is short lived) next week when I get back into Darwin.
and of course one of the new roof trim pieces was the wrong one so another two week wait for the new one to come up .

will need to drop the very expensive synthetic oils in a couple of weeks form the gearbox and transfer which should be aroundd 1000-1200"kmracked up, and fill with expensive sinthetic oils new to get rid of any brass swaff from the drivetrain as it settles in. Gearbox shift is quite firm and hopefully will start to free up as we get some km racked up.

I sear I have run over a chinaman.

Arrived back from KTOWN Friday and noticed some fluid spatter on the back of Chaffy. Thought it might be my fuel tank as I have a small minor leak.

Climbed under der him and seen oil over the rear diff. Blown pinion seal dammit. Back into the Sporty for the trip back down. Lucky for the boy Chaffy can still be driven around town til he's fixed.

He he goes in to get the windscreen refitted on Tuesday under warranty as it is leaking badly.

Left indicator relay sticky. Took it out, sprayed Corrosion X inside, replaced, works like a bought one. I noticed my old fuse box runs bigger Tyco brand black coloured indicator relays and my newer one runs yellow Siemens relays with 1 less pin. Must have changed designs over life of Disco 2.

Mission creep....
Removed Battery.
Noticed some corrosion on the underside of the battery retaining plate - sand, etch prime, satin black - like new.
Removed battery box - likely for the first time since the vehicle left the dealer.
Inventory: Fossilised dragonfly, M4 bolt, high water mark from previous owners wading adventure.
Decided while dismantling this area it is time to clean up the mess left over from (previous owner) presumably an ATF cooler hose disconnect and oily drenching.
Proceed to imitate Zoolander with paper towel (instead of cotton wool balls, the scene after his first day in the mine with his family) copious degreaser and odd hand positioning for hoses, thermostat, steering box, chassis rails, battery box, body etc etc etc.
Removed all the hoses.
Removed front grill.
Removed Horns.
Removed radiator and intercooler mounting brackets.
Had a near religious experience where the ratchet spanner jumped ahead of both dead blow hammer and wire brush as my favourite tool.
Very carefully removed intercooler without damaging anything.
Filled with blue kerosene - emptied black kerosene - repeat. Takes about 3.5 Litres. Less if you go with fill and shake as opposed to marinate.
Cleaned all hoses and steel manifold - which needs a sand and paint (love that satin black) before it goes back in.
The MAF to Turbo inlet hose is in better condition than I thought - Win!
Rest!
Tomorrow I get to put it all back together and finally plumb provent! Was supposed to be a one day job....
