Do it!!
Read up as much as possible, beg, borrow, steal a dial gauge and magnetic base and a spring/fish scale (I find the old way of a piece of string and a fish scale the easiest for setting up the centre diff bearing preload) and go for it.
The best advice I can give anyone doing mechanical stuff is cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness and have a clear plan prior to starting the job and take your time.
Don't let anyone or anything rush you.

as I have done this before.
Where can I get 9/16 nylock nuts from? I'm not including Bunnings as an option. Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Any ideas?
