If a 14 mm bolt was the same all over it would be called threaded rod
14 mm head size is usually m10 x1.5 or m10 x1.25 , so 10 mm x 1.5 mm thread pitch

They are not 14mm and that might be the reason why you have stuffed the nut`s by using metric spanners
