New custom 2nd battery with a used genuine tray bent to the design. Custom aluminum frame with heat shield aluminum foil wrap.

Took me some good hours last night to make it happen.

A nice neat job But personally I don't think that it is a Great idea to have a battery butted up to a turbocharger regardless of how good the heatshield is.
It will also prevent the airflow over the turbo as well, Which is also Not ideal.

    I agree .
I have an Optima there with the turbo heat shield in place and another solid heat shield between the Optima and the turbo. Mine has a modified ARB battery tray.

A DIN 66 L battery would be a better fit or an Optima group 34 which is 800+CCA.

My Optima is three years old now and reading 90%.

    Good effort, bad execution.

That battery is in for a world of hurt.
Heat in that corner will be extreme.

Aluminium will fatigue off-road under that weight.

I couldn’t quite see the clearances to the actual battery but would be wary as under hard torque changes that engine could contact that battery.

I wouldn’t trust that set up on serious trips at all.

Correct. It was made for D2 and was designed to fit well on to the firewall and on the body area above the wheel arch. I did make it custom based on this tray with the solid extension part. The tray now is sitting there with 2 x M10 bolts on the firewall, and 2x M10 bolts on the body. Then on top of the tray is the custom aluminium box with 2-4 layers of aluminium heat-shield foil wrap. The battery is secured to the tray by standard battery holder mechanism as you have on the primary one (my primary battery is 1100CCA 110AH). I don't see any movement that could be possible under normal driving, but will keep an eye on that setting.
