Maybe get whyatts to do an inspection every 2nd service if you want to do your own oils and filters

And Trout, you may not know that discorevy, like DazzaTD5, earns his crusts by working on landies (after formally completing his LR apprenticeship a bit more than a few months ago) and in my opinion is up there with Justin Cooper, Blknight and a few other gurus.
Plus he owns a very hot D2a, a rangie or two and I don't know what else is hidden down in Nirvana country.

I went to plug in the Nanocom, and busted the OBDI socket on the car. The socket is adrift behind the panel. I need to remove the panel and reattach the socket.

Quite common for the OBDII port to get pushed through.
I made up a little reinforcing bracket when I had mine glued to the back of the hole, and it worked okay, but would still push out the port if I pushed the cable connection in too hard.

Why don't you set up your Evo to be in instrument mode and left permanently in the car. I made up a bracket out of aluminium scrap, or you can buy one from BBS.
I had mine set up hidden low down just to the left of the steering wheel, and just had to touch it each time I started up to get the display working. There is also a workaround available so it turns on with the ignition - I still have the diagram somewhere on file.

The first of many benefits is a proper coolant temp gauge and settable alarm. Also handy to know battery voltage, and boost - speed and revs guages are of course also already in your binnacle.

Pick of my dash layout attached.

The D2a is nearly 17 years old with nearly 300,000k's on the clock, It is what it is and thats an ageing 4WD.
Pretty hard to justify paying hundreds of dollars each 10,000ks for a professional service when it costs less than $100 to change out the oil, filter and occasional air filter myself.
The old girl is getting to be like grandfather's axe as there isn't that much on it that hasn't been replaced/renewed so far.

Mounting it there is neat. How did you attach the bracket to the console?
I managed to push the plug back through the hole, it clicked back firmly.

That would cost around $120 every 20 000k

Probably easier to justify that an inspection every 20 000k would have saved you $4000 less the cost of the prop shaft and rotoflex, not to mention the hassle of getting it towed if you happened to be remote.

Had to think - that was 10 years ago. I managed to rivet a small alloy arm ex scrap onto and under the ashtray, and the Evo housing is fitted to the left. Little bit of fitting juggling required to still gain access to the ash/coin tray.
