stripped the door and manually raised window while pressing up and this fell out into door bottom. Looks like 3 resistance welds have sheared. Anyway an hour and duct tape has it up.
looks like never done before so 20 years isn’t bad.

Did brake pads today.
Left rear guide pins seized solid in the carrier .. all others were half baked, but still functional.
Seized pins caused caliper to wear pads unevenly and more to the point killed the disc on the inner pad side.
Didn't have time to replace the disc today, so have to run it with a chewed rear disc for a few days.
For pads, I went with RDAs Phantom ceramic type compound.
Brother reckons feel a wee bit better than before.
I've had Repco ceramics in my D1 for a few years now, and immediately noticed better initial bite(kind'a like needing less initial pressure on the pad, due to more braking power initially) especially compared to the D2s brake pads.
When bro got the D2, one of the first things we did was rebuild the brakes(calipers) and new discs and stuff. Even with (recently) braided lines and all, the D1s initial pedal felt much more responsive compared to the D2.
I haven't yet driven D2 on the new RDA pads .. too busy fixing Peugeots and BMWs .. and only packed stuff up an hour after dark.
Need a shower and I might go for a quick spin to check it out myself.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

LOL!
I just got back from the shops. I went for a short extended drive to the shop. Normal drive = about 2 mins(it's close, but awkward to walk).
Straight out of the gate(literally!) .. my driveway gate.
This is where I feel it most.
Coming from the D1(with the Repco ceramics) .. I need (as an example) '5kg' of pressure on the brake pedal just to east out the gate and hard 90° turn onto the street.
When switching from D1 to D2(had some cheapo Mintex pads) .. I forget I'm now in the D2 and that same whisker of 5kg pressure does nothing as I'm gently flying down the drive, into the gutter dip and onto the road compared to the D1, so now it feel like it needed more like 15Kg of gentle pressure on the pedal.
Overall, say in harder braking the D2 always felt more powerful in it's total braking ability than the D1 .. it was always just the initial bite.
So far so good in the D2(initial bite) with these RDA ceramics now. And total brake power feels about as I remember. I did a couple of half hard brake applications in one of the deserted streets near me(obviously before I got my groceries! .. don't want groceries flying all over the car ..) and still feel fine. I don't think they've fully bedded in maybe, only done about 3 or 5klms all up... but so far they do feel like the initial bite is better than cheapo Mintex pads
My D1 has solid front rotors, I haven't yet had the chance to rebuild the calipers, so more than likely half seized, and still haven't replaced brake fluid in it. Will try to get most/all of that done when time allows.
Only thing done to D1 brakes was going to the Repco ceramics from TRW that I found it had fitted. I recall that was instantly noticeable.
This could be why the D2s brakes do feel like they're overall more powerful than the D1(for now) .. so the annoyance of what felt like brake fade on initial press used to bug me.
I dunno what folks pay for brake pads, or what they deem to be good value for money .. but the RDA Phantoms weren't horrifically expensive. $122.90 (from Sparebox) for both front and rear. Cheaper than the Repcos. Only issue was their stuff up of not delivering in the 5 business days like their site reckoned. They took pretty much the whole month(ordered 9th, delivered 29th).
I drove my nephews recently got E30 BMW, which I've had experience with back in the day. His brake were diabolical. Zero feel, and power. He also got some cheapo pads(we're getting it RWC-ied to get reg for him) .. as a side note, the rears pads on the D2 are the same listing for the fronts on the E30.

This is interesting, just watched a Car SOS where they converted an MGB to electric and they used an Electric Servo which thinking about it makes sense. This for mine would be an easier option than the Hydraulic -https://www.hella.com/microsite-electronics/en/UP30-32-vacuum-pump-117.html - sure there are some out there that more powerful.
